I believe it is a plastic vinyl sort of material. Well my car is a ford tauris also. just looking for a kit or something, dont want to take it to a shop or anything and get charged for a simple repair i can do myself.
If the tears are bad enough…i wouldn't bother trying to fix it….they make replacement arm rests……..at least they do for tractor trucks…..I would think it's the same for cars….and they shouldn't be that expensive…..and it will look better too.

This Saturday, the Willits Center for the Arts will present a downstairs July show with a Frontier Days theme: “Celebrating Willits: Creativity and Innovation.”
The show features four people in Willits who have used creativity and innovation to make life better. Ed Burton and Gordon Wagenet were profiled in the Willits News last week. Stories about the other two locals feature din the show, Jack Tharp and Stella James, are included in this article.
There will be more stories to hear about these innovative and creative thinkers at the opening on Saturday, July 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. the reception will feature bluegrass harmonies and music from Cliff and Julia Landis and friends; beer and wine sales benefit theWillits Lion’s Club.
Thoughts from Ann Maglinte and Deborah Grieg on Stella James:
“We have visited Stella James on several occasions, and these stories are from our many conversations about her life.
“Anyone who has met Stella will be impressed by her amazing recall of past events in her life. As you converse, one memory flows into another, and you are drawn into the incredibly rich life she has had. Minutes turn into hours as she tells you the history of the Sherwood Valley and the life that she and her husband, Edgar James, had.
“There seems to be no job that she would not tackle, from cooking each day for 40 men or canning 500 quarts of fruit each year. As you wander around her home on your visit, different things will catch her eye, and she will tell a story about it, including the exact date it happened and how old she was. Even at 95 years old, she has a knack for remembering dates that most of us can only dream about.
“Stella’s grandfather was born in Germany in 1878 and made Black Forest fine furniture and cuckoo clocks. Her Dad was a dairyman and was the first cousin of Queen Wilhemina of Holland. Stella was born in the town of Stetler in Alberta, Canada on March 12, 1916.
“Eventually her family moved to Willits. Her father was skilled at carpentry, and he and her brother built all the trusses for the Willits High School Gymnasium and auditorium. when she was 16 years old, she met her future husband Edgar on the corner of Commercial and Humboldt Streets waiting for the parade to start on the Fourth of July in 1932. They both had ridden over 10 miles that morning from their ranches to ride in the parade.
“One year later, she married Edgar on August 2, 1933. the house that they lived in was the former stagecoach stop and hotel on Sherwood Road. There was a post office where her bedroom is now, four rooms upstairs and an outhouse in the back, where the guests emptied their chamber pots. Sherwood was a lively town, and before Prohibition in 1918 there were eight saloons between Sherwood and Willits.
“Stella has always been a hard worker and willing to learn all the skills she needed to live on a rural ranch. She made all of her own clothes on a treadle sewing machine and learned how to work leather to make her own chaps. She sewed and embroidered her dresses for the monthly square dances held at the Sherwood School.
“She and Edgar worked on the Stemples Ranch in 1943: Edgar roped, marked and branded cattle, and Stella cooked for the 40-plus ranch hands. Stella was an accomplished horseback rider, and was the Fortuna Rodeo Queen in 1948 (Lee Persico’s father was one of the judges). Edgar died in January 1984, at 83 years old.
“Stella continues to run the James Ranch to this day, taking care of the horses and animals, mending fences, and using her ingenuity to keep the place in running order. Stella has been honored to be the Grand Marshall in the Frontier Days Parade in 1963, 1993 and 2010.
“Stella is an accomplished artist and will have several of her paintings and colored pencil drawings on display at the Willits Center for the Arts Frontier Days art show. Also on display will be the belt buckle she designed for Frontier Days in 2000.”
Lee Persico’s article about Jack Tharp:
“Jack Tharp became involved with Willits Frontier Days at my request. in those days we were involved every year with building the old wooden chutes, arena and grandstand.
Soon after Jack’s involvement, the City of Willits agreed to let a local race contractor build a dirt track for hardtop car racing. this meant tearing out all of the chutes, corrals and arena. this left the rodeo committee with no facilities to stage the annual upcoming rodeo.
With Jack’s help we obtained the temporary use of a portable arena from the fairground in Petaluma. Jack coordinated the donated trucking and drivers to go to Petaluma and haul the chutes, panels, etc. needed to put on a rodeo, plus the return of everything after the 4th of July. That in itself was a major undertaking.
But that was just the start of a major rebuild project. We had enough money to buy the eight bucking chutes and the roping chute, but that was all. We then obtained iron pipe that was in a defunct local bottling company. this meant cutting and removing several thousands of feet of iron pipe, and hauling it to the grounds to be manufactured into arena panels and holding pens. all the panels and pens had to be made portable so they could be moved to facilitate the car racing association during the racing season.
After a couple of years the car racing association realized it was not profitable and decided to quit. That left Frontier Days with the dilemma of removing the dirt race track. again, Jack rose to the occasion and obtained a donated loader to remove the pile of dirt and a grader to replace the arena so that we could produce a rodeo.
Jack sat on the Frontier Days board of directors for many years and also served as president for several years. Jack has a deep love for the Frontier Days celebration and even married his wife, Candy, on the evening of July 4, 1995.
Jack has given so much of his time to the maintenance and repair of the grounds and facilities. It is with this unselfish dedication that Frontier Days has survived throughout all its turbulent history.
It is an honor to be Jack’s friend and to have worked with him all these years. in these fast-paced times, it is gratifying to know there are people like Jack who you can count on for any project or emergency that might arise.
Jack’s saying when asked: can we get this done? was “Not to worry.”
Jack is truly a Willits Frontier Days legend and the backbone of the organization.
“Celebrating Willits: Creativity and Innovation” will run Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 3 p.m., July 2 through July 31 at 71 East Commercial Street, Willits.

I damaged new vinyl flooring while moving the fridge into position. there now is a wrinkle about 18-20 inches long. it is an indentation with puckering on either side of it. will heat applied to it cause the vinyl to shrink a bit and perhaps remove the wrinkle? I really don't want to replace a section of the flooring. It's the 120 ml Armstrong's "Best" flooring that if free floating. Anybody ever successfully repaired this kind of damage?
If it's repaired it will never be the same, just replace it.
