How do i connect an equalizer to a receiver that has no tape monitor, or pre amp in and out?

have a new sony receiver its 7 channels but very week in the bass, and i have an old onkyo eq i would like to use, but the receiver has no tape monitor, or pre amp in and out, how can i connect this eq, or at least get more bass out of it, i have the receiver connected to 2 fisher speakers with 15 inch woofers, i hate to buy a powered sub and not be able to use these speakers that still work perfect

its model : STR-DE898. i have the bass setting up all the way, but just is very weak in bass when playind cd's

You cant connect an eq, as for the weak sound you probably have the amp in one of the surround sound settings, make sure its set to stereo.

Are you sure the Fisher Speakers are in good working order.
Have you tested another set of speakers on your receiver.
And, I agree with Jim B, make sure your settings are on Stereo only (turn surround off)

If the bass is really weak as you say with the bass control all the way up there is definitely something wrong.there should be no need for the equalizer even though the fischer speakers aren't bass champs. try reversing the speaker wire leads on either the left or right speaker but not both. with the new receiver you might have mistakenly wired the positive and negative leads. if this didn't do the trick then perhaps you have defeated the tone controls. Most receivers can defeat their tone controls with a button usually on the receiver face.with this button engaged the bass control would not work. Are you sure you have the left and right speakers set to large in the menu.if you have them set to small and set the sub to yes then you will not get much bass out of them. try these steps one at a time. Good luck!
