Friends,
I am quoting here from an interesting article I just read:
"Just as important is to relax I between balls. Fielding therefore is a lot like batting. After you play your shot for example, "switching off" before the next ball keeps you fresh mentally. by this I mean thinking about something completely irrelevant while the ball is dead. in the field, whether you are at slip or on the boundary, it is vital to have periods where you focus on and off. I like to call it "switching on". As soon as the ball is considered "dead" (for example the wicketkeeper catches the ball and passes it to another fieldsman), this time is your "switching off time". Think about the television show last night. Play a song in your head. Whatever makes you relax or takes your mind off the game in progress. Then when you see the bowler at the top of his mark, begin your concentration and focus on the next ball. Steve Waugh called the degree of concentration when fielding "zones". you will be surprised how simple but effective this is to improve your enjoyment and focus while fielding. It is also necessary to last a whole day in the field! "

1. have you tried this while playing cricket? and does it work for you?
2. have you tried this in real life situations? and does it work for you?
Thanks

While batting or bowling i always think abt the game.
But while fielding i feel little bit free of game.
In real life i always try to be relax & mostly it works
i played cricket only at backyard. only 4 or 5 time at ground. and my last match i at backyard was more or less 5 years ago. i used to be a gr8 turner of ball
both leggy and offspin.. but that para from article is very impressive
When I use to field, I'd switch off between balls. I usually hummed a song. Did the same in batting.
My cricket playing days are way off of me. Yes I agree when I played this sort would be counter initiative because you always wanted keep focusing on the play and expect the unexpected. With that in mind while fielding or batting or bowling, I always played the previous ball in mind or a ball that got the wicket or boundary. this is how I played cricket. but now I play only tennis, and believe it or not – this strategy works. you are so relaxed and take a deep breath in between the points and forget about what I am playing. It helps me to concentrate the ball more and to top this I can take my breathe in between. I came to know in one of the articles on playing casual tennis for long hours and having fun and being fit. It works all the time. I have stopped yelling at myself when I make mistake and I more calmer and concentrate better.
Related to real life situation, I do this all the time at work when I working under pressure on multiple projects or in a meeting where we have heated debate. Apply this technique and it works wonders and allow yourself to think different.
