HOUSEHOLDERS are now able to place aluminium foil products in their blue box for glass and cans as part of South Lakeland District Council’s kerbside collection service.
Residents are being asked to make sure they always wash their kitchen foil thoroughly before recycling.
As well as foil cartons, people will also be able to recycle other aluminium products including milk bottle tops, barbecue and freezing trays, cigarette and tobacco foil and screw top lids from wine bottles “We are working hard to ensure residents are able to recycle more products on their doorstep,” said Coun Clare Feeney-Johnson, portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability. “The council is aiming to reduce the amount of waste going in the grey household waste bin and then onto landfill.
“Residents already recycle and compost over 43% of the waste generated in the district, so the more waste we can divert from landfill the better.”
SLDC has recently added envelopes to the list of products that can be recycled. it has also made it easier to recycle paper and cardboard at the recycling banks, as the banks now accept a mix of paper and card and the council’s contractors do the sorting later.
The council has also removed the need to separate different colours in the glass recycling banks, which means they are now emptied when the entire bank is full. This has helped to reduce the number of journeys needed to empty the banks, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and cutting the council’s carbon footprint.

LinkedIn shares more than doubled in price in their first day of trading, valuing the annoyingly pointless social network at more than $US8 billion. Now that the social networking bubble has reached the masses, it isn’t just annoying, it’s dangerous.
From an offering price of $US45, LinkedIn shares rose as high as $US122.70 and have now settled down to around $US110. Why is this insane? well, to justify present worth of roughly $US8 billion, LinkedIn will not only have to keep gouging corporate and business customers with access fees, but gouge far more of them, “from a few thousand customers today to tens of thousands“. Yet users aren’t visiting the site as often as LinkedIn would like, probably because it is clogged with annoying, friend-spamming careerists no one wants to deal with and because, unlike with Facebook, there’s not much reason to come back to the site once you’ve set up a profile.
Until now, the nutso nosebeed overvaluations of companies like Twitter and Facebook were problems only for the wealthy investors able to get a piece of the privately held startups, and perhaps for the occasional pension fund . Now that LinkedIn has become “NYSE: LNKD,” it’s a problem that will be shared by mutual funds shareholders, individual public stock investors and, potentially, anyone depending on the good fortune of said equity holders. welcome to the beginnings of systemic risk.

I ship items every once in a while, and i want to know the cheapest form, weather it be usps, ups or fed ex. I ship both small and large padded envelopes along with small boxes, nothing ever weights more than 10lbs. This will be very helpful, thank you.
USPS is usually the cheapest. both FedEx and UPS offer ground shipping at reasonable rates. I usually prefer the Post Office but I have used UPS because there are UPS stores that are open late.
