Bought a chair, told it was out of stock so cancelled. Three weeks later I get the chair. Should I tell them?

I bought an office chair off a company from Amazon Marketplace, as it was the cheapest I could find it. after a few days of no delivery though (even though it had been stated as being dispatched) I got an email from them stating the one they had was the last one in stock and it was damaged beyond use. They said they were getting more in three weeks but if I didn't want to wait I could cancel.

Thinking I'd just have to get it elsewhere, I cancelled the order. They accepted and I got a full refund a few days later. Fast forward a few weeks and I had completely forgot about the chair, I'd completely forgot about getting one from somewhere else in fact. then out of the blue I get a delivery. it's the office chair I ordered and subsequently cancelled.

I've checked and I haven't been charged. They haven't emailed me or anything, there's absolutely no word from them at all. also since I bought it through Amazon marketplace, now they've refunded the order there's no way they can take the money off me again.

So, what should I do? I figure I've got three options:

1. take the moral route, email them and tell them I've got the chair and they should send me a bill so I can pay for it.

2. keep quiet about it, but if they do at some point contact me asking if I had got the chair, own up and then get them to send me a bill.

3. keep quiet about it and hope they don't contact me, but if they do, deny all knowledge of ever receiving it (even though I had to sign documents to receive the delivery).

If you don't pay for it or send it back, you've stolen it – but no-one's going to prosecute you. do you go through life doing what you think is moral, or what you think you can get away with? If it's the second, I'm glad we don't do business.

Always take the moral route. just send an email letting them know that you received the chair that they had reimbursed you for. you don't need to ask for a bill at this point. but if they send you one, you should pay it. keep all your emails and paperwork regarding the transaction.

Do you like the chair and wouldn't mind keeping it? If so, go with #2

Keep it until they get back to you about it (whether they do or not)….Maybe they sent it to you anyways because of the trouble you went through…

Well, actually, the chair is not your property, let them know of the mistake, and ask them to collect asap. you may think that noone knows, but you have to live with it!

It depends on your own morals, so go with your own gut instinct. would you shoplift?
I personally wouldn't try and get away with it – after all it is still stealing.

First option. They made a mistake, but I would feel guilty keeping something that I didn't pay for.

it depends, do you believe in Karma, if so, inform them, if not, keep the chair.

noooooooooooooooo keep it and the cash

Golden rule, friend, golden rule. Get in touch with Amazon and tell them what happened. Karma happens.

For studying, would you buy a chair that had 4 adjustable legs, like those on office chairs?

Each chair leg could be independently adjusted using a lever, a table top that flips over to rest on armrests is included, there is storage in armrests and under the seat AND the whole chair is made from 100% recycled, re-used and exciting materials. The chair would be brightly coloured, contrasting with brown of wood.

Yea. I mean if the chair looks well designed and cool then i will get it. also if it is comfortable. that is what maters. I don't think that there is anything else. that is what a chair is for.

I'm sitting in an old office chair right now that came from Texas A & M. The base has four legs with casters. The chair is adjustable up and down and the tension of the back is adjustable. it has no arm rests and is perfect for me. keep it simple and get a chair that is comfortable and functional. If it rolls you will need a clear chair mat to protect the floor and make the chair roll easy on carpet. Office Depot.
