Guam -A measure proposed by Senator Mana Silva-Taijeron seeks to protect confidential information which is collected on GovGuam computers and digital copier machines.
Her legislation would make the Department of Administration, the General Services Agency and the Bureau of Information Technology responsible for ensuring that the information they share or obtain “is erased or removed from the computers or digital copiers that are utilized by government entities.”
Bill 250 would also require that when ever DOA, GSA or BIT procured a computer or digital copier machine, that that procurement include equipment or software, which can erase the internal hard drive memory.
A release quotes the Senator as saying that she is “alarmed at the dangers posed if private information falls into the wrong hands … this issue needs to be brought to the forefront as this has the potential to negatively affect the livelihood of many island residents.”

Bill 250-31 (COR) Seeks to Protect Confidential Government Information
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEJune 27, 2011Senator Mana Silva Taijeron introduced Bill 250-31 (COR), which protects confidential and sensitive information, which is collected on government-used computers and digital copier machines, during the provision of government services. the legislation makes the Department of Administration, the General Service Agency and the Bureau of Information Technology responsible for ensuring that information shared or obtained through methods such as printing, copying, scanning, electronic mail or facsimile, is erased or removed from the computers or digital copiers that are utilized by government entities.“I am alarmed at the dangers posed if private information falls into the wrong hands,” said Sen. Silva Taijeron. “Our government must implement the appropriate measures to prevent that from happening.”Most computers and copier machines are equipped with an internal hard drive memory which records activity that takes place on the particular machine, and stores the information it obtains. the main concern addressed by the bill is the potential of information to be obtained and accessed when the government replaces, resells or discards used computers or copier machines to non-government entities. “Ensuring the privacy of sensitive information collected by our government is an issue that not too many people are familiar with,” said Sen. Silva Taijeron. “I believe this issue needs to be brought to the forefront as this has the potential to negatively affect the livelihood of many island residents.”Bill 250-31 (COR) would also require DOA, GSA and BIT to ensure that any procurement of computer or digital copier machines includes equipment or software, which erases the internal hard drive memory.

SHANGHAI : the Japanese electronics giant Canon Inc is aiming to increase its revenue in Asian countries to US$20 billion by 2015, with half coming from the surging China market.
Joining actor and Expo Ambassador Jackie Chan (second from right) to show off new products in the Canon EOS zone, from left: Tsuneji Uchida, president and COO, Canon Inc; Fujio Mitarai, chairman and CEO, Canon Inc; and Hideki Ozawa, president and CEO of Canon China.
Asia has become a vital market for the Japanese camera and copier maker, and Fujio Mitarai, chairman and CEO of Canon Inc, expressed his confidence in the region in his keynote speech at the opening of Canon Expo 2011.
Traditionally, Canon’s top three markets are the United States, Europe and Japan. However, Asian markets led by China and India have become the focal point of the company during the past few years.
Canon Expo 2011 in Shanghai was the Canon Group’s biggest exhibition to date of its latest imaging products and services as well as future-oriented technologies.
The commercial hub of China was the last stop of the Canon Expo global tour following events taking place in new York, Paris, and Tokyo from September to November last year.
Hideki Ozawa, the president of Canon Asia Marketing Group (CAMG), said the Shanghai event was the first Canon Expo to have been held in Asia outside of Japan. the event also demonstrated the importance of Asia in general and China in particular to the Canon Group.
“Today’s Asia market represented by China is like a cruise ship moving forward at full speed, and Canon will control this ship to move forward more solidly in the future,” said mr Ozawa.
Referring to the IMF World Economic Outlook Database, Canon said Asian gross domestic product was predicted to account for nearly 20% of global GDP by 2015 and would continue to grow at around 9% annually throughout the period.
According to mr Mitarai, China is becoming a driving force for the global economy with its large population.
Demand from Asean countries is also increasing while the world’s second largest country by population, India, has potential for great growth over the medium to long term.
Mr Ozawa also said Canon would maximise performance of all eight of its sales companies across Asia to take advantage from the rapid growth of the region.
In 2010, Canon’s sales in the Asia and Oceania region represented 22% of the company’s total global sales.
Canon’s Asian sales last year exceeded $6 billion, 2.5 times higher than in 2005. Sales from China exceeded $2.5 billion in 2010, four times the 2005 figure.
Canon stated in its mission that it would enhance the performance of all eight sales companies in Asia to make them a “billion company fleet” within 2016. it also aims to command a leading position of at least a 20% market share in every product category.
The company has developed an action plan to increase its coverage in other emerging countries including India, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as Thailand.
Even though cameras and business machines remain Canon’s prominent products in those emerging market, the company will also introduce broader product categories such as large-format printers, medical equipment, digital printing, broadcast products, security cameras, as well as projectors to these markets.
However, mr Ozawa acknowledged that Canon still had relatively low brand recognition in China, India and Indonesia. therefore the company needs to find a new marketing strategy to increase brand awareness in those countries.

With recent advances of technology in office machines, it is now extremely likely that you will see colour photocopiers in the place of black and white photocopiers in many workplaces. Colour photocopiers used to be much slower, but, with recent improvements, some professional colour photocopiers can reach speeds of up to 50ppm. Colour photocopiers are quickly becoming the standard in workplaces, as people are able to produce high quality photocopies with high resolutions at very fast speeds.
Now that colour photocopiers have dropped in price and also started incorporating printing and scanning in the same device, businesses can now can now purchase a colour photocopier and printer in one device that doesn’t cost the earth, meaning that businesses are often now using colour photocopiers on an everyday basis.
Having colour photocopiers in a business instead of a black and white photocopier has several advantages. It has been shown that colour copies of documents can improve business communications as these do far more to capture people’s attention than black and white versions. Replacing a black and white photocopier with a colour photocopier will also mean that far more printing can be done in house, which is likely to be more cost effective than outsourcing the colour photocopies.
It wasn’t very long ago when colour photocopiers could not produce high quality black and white copies, which deterred many people. Colour photocopiers can now also efficiently produce black and white photocopies, which means that, although the initial outlay can be high, the colour photocopier has the potential to meet all of a businesses needs so is likely to pay for itself in the first few years. Workplaces no longer have to settle for either a black and white or a colour photocopier now that these photocopiers can do both jobs very efficiently.
Technology found in photocopiers is improving rapidly and costs are dropping. less than ten years ago it would have seemed extravagant to purchase a colour photocopier for a small or medium business, however, now that the colour photocopiers are digital, matching speeds of black and white photocopiers, it is no longer seen as a luxury that only some of the very large businesses can afford. Similar to the way colour televisions have now replaced black and white versions, it seems it will be in the very near future when colour photocopiers have completely replaced black and white photocopiers.
