The new Quantum Fusion Splicer is the industry’s smallest and lightest core-alignment fusion splicer and is the only splicer with a fully navigational touch screen monitor; SD port, plus video, audio, and software uploads; remote maintenance; and longest electrode life for better optical fiber splicing efficiencies in the data center, enterprise network, FTTx, and outside plant environments.
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, a leader in the design and manufacturing of optical fiber and connectivity solutions, today announced the introduction of the Quantum Type-Q101-CA Dual-Heater Core Alignment Fusion Splicer™, the first splicer launched in its new Quantum Splicer product line. having incorporated results from qualitative end-user research and needs analyses, Sumitomo Electric’s Quantum Splicer embodies unprecedented industry first advancements designed to address the needs of technicians for easier and faster splicer functionality, significantly expanded memory storage, improved ruggedness, and optimum splicing efficiencies in speed and performance.
“by listening to the customer, we have launched the most advanced, reliable, and user-friendly splicer in the industry”
to meet the needs for easier and faster user-friendly splicer functionality, the Quantum fusion splicer is the industry’s first splicer with a fully functional touch-screen interface, making splicer function navigation more intuitive, faster, and easier than traditional keypad interfaces. The Quantum incorporates both the touch-screen and keypad interfaces to offer technicians a preferred choice. The new Quantum is also the industry’s first splicer with an SD port for virtually unlimited data storage, plus the capability of downloading and uploading work related splicing project data, training videos, audio, and software.
without compromising full splicing functionality, performance, and ruggedness, the Quantum splicer is the industry’s smallest (4.72W x 6.06D x 4.96H inches) and lightest (4.4 lbs) core-alignment fusion splicer that is easier to carry and work with in the many small, confined spaces characterizing the data center, enterprise network, FTTx and outside plant work environments. Despite its small footprint and light weight, the Quantum Splicer boasts the industry’s largest 640 x 320 fiber view and longest electrode life, while complying with the most stringent shock, waterproof, and dust resistance requirements.
“By listening to the customer, we have launched the most advanced, reliable, and user-friendly splicer in the industry,” comments Joshua Seawell, manager of the Lightwave Network Products division at Sumitomo Electric Lightwave. “We thank our customers for their valuable input, which is the foundation of our continued leadership in providing the best that fusion splicing technology has to offer.”
The Quantum Splicer also features a user selectable fiber placement system, Li-ion battery, metal hood, and Sumitomo Electric’s standard dual-heater system, which has been upgraded with a 20 second reduction in combined splice and heater cycle time, yielding one of the fastest splicers on the market. The splicer is also compatible with the Lynx2 CustomFit® Splice-On Connectors for customized, on-site cable builds and terminations. The Quantum Splicer will be available in September 2011.

Ads on Wheels allows private car owners to display promotional stickers on their cars, and allows them to earn fuel vouchers.
autojunction.in, the auto eCommerce portal from the eCommerce company mjunction services, has recently launched its own version of branding on private vehicles called ‘Ads on Wheels’.
Ads on Wheels allows private car owners to display promotional stickers on their car for a stipulated period of time, varying from three months to a maximum of one year, and allows them to earn petrol or diesel vouchers (cash cards), along with complimentary gifts from the advertiser.
While there are other companies like Adometer (launched in Mumbai in 2010), and CashUrDrive (launched in Delhi in 2008) offering such services, as well, this will be a third of its kind initiative, launched in Kolkata, for now.
Satnav Technologies is the first company to use this service to promote its car navigation gear. Satnav creates products in GIS applied areas like navigation, telematics and facilities management.
The ‘Ads on Wheels’ campaign was conceptualised to use privately-owned cars as ‘mobile wheel boards’ for advertisement placements, promotional, and branding material, which creates an opportunity for advertisers to reach out to a larger audience. it also encourages car owners to save fuel cost for a certain period of time.
The idea is to make participating car owners think of themselves as advocators and brand ambassadors. Advertisers are free to offer customised offers to car owners for carrying their ads, thereby improving the conversion ratio.
Sumit Chatterjee, head, autojunction.in, says, “We have just started, and over 2,000 car owners are already registered with us. The number is increasing daily. Interested car owners are registering through Facebook, or directly through autojunction.in . This idea provides a win-win situation for both the advertiser and vehicle owners.”
The cost of stickers for the car branding is on a ‘per car’ basis. The rate depends on the size and the placement of the sticker on the car, and ranges between Rs 900 Rs 2,500 per car, for a minimum period of three months.
The company is looking at getting brands on board which consist of products which will not hurt the sentiments of car owners, and are within government-approved rules and advertising code of conduct.
Chatterjee adds, “We are also looking at advertisers who have frequent service offerings, and hence, need to catch more eyeballs through non-conventional media. The idea is to get noticed and create retention in the consumer’s mind.”
autojunction’s Ads on Wheels media is currently available in Kolkata. However, the company plans to launch this service in other cities as well, starting with the other metros.
For the record, autojunction, which was launched in 2006, is a business unit of mjunction services (a 2001-founded joint venture of TATA Steel and SAIL). it forayed into online sale of new cars for the first time in India with the sale of Reva electric car. In February 2010, autojunction announced its partnership with Electrotherm India to sell India’s largest-selling electric two wheeler — Yobykes — online at autojunction.in. it offers auto accessories, ranging from car care products to GPS and navigation tools, and is now being developed into a fully-integrated auto eCommerce portal catering to all the three segments (B2B, B2C & C2C) by offering separate and specialised auto eCcommerce services such as eAuction, eClassifieds, eRetailing and eReferral services.
mjunction is today not only India’s largest eCommerce company (having an eTransacted worth of over Rs 90,000 crore till date), but also runs the world’s largest eMarketplace for steel.

I wonder why they can't restrict horsepower with factory cranks rods and pistons.anybody know why they don't do this?
Since Chevrolet Impalas and Ford Fusions don't come from the factory with 358 cubic inch V-8 engines, carburetors, or 4 speed manual transmissions, the answer would be a big fat ZERO. all parts found on a Cup car are made for racing by aftermarket performance manufacturers.
As far as those parts of the go, there are no factory parts used. Haven't been for years.
In a Chevy, Blocks are probably from Dart, cranks from Moldex, rods from Crower, pistons from Malhe. Dunno whose heads they like, maybe Brodix.
Transmissions are from Richmond…….
