I need a female usb because i am going to hook it up to a solar panel so i can charge my ipod on the go. however, i have had trouble finding a female usb with wires attached, this has wires attached but is it a female usb? if not, can someone post a link to a female usb with wires?

This one at Newegg.com has a connection for a motherboard, but I guess you could just clip off the connection, and use those wires.

Its been a question I'm asking very late. does not shutting down a PC properly cause an issue. does power failures cause the hardware to get damaged ?
A UPS is not necessary to have for a computer.
Shutting down improperly can damage data and result in bad sectors on the hard disk
Power failures can cause bad data just like an improper shutdown, but its usually power spikes and surges which cause damage to hardware.
Not shuttin down a computer properly gives you the "Boot in safe mode" screen next time you log on. I always choose "Start Windows normally".
Modern computers can easily withstand power outages. in some countries, outages are a daily occurence whether due to unusual weather conditions or poor infrastructure
No UPS are just like backup power supply if in case you have a power failure you still have time to shut down your CP improperly shutting down cause some data to be lost or damages ….

unless, its mission critical that your pc be running 24×7.
as for hard shutdowns and abends <abnormal ending> if you run a raid or multiple hard drives in a pc, then continued abends are hard on the platters and read/write arms of the disks. this will create bad sectors on disks, and eventual drive failure.
some answerer made the best point that all a ups is for in case of power failure,it's not needed it,set your bios to keep the pc off in case of power failure and use a power surge potector outlet that your pc is plug into in case power come back on and there is a surge in the lines
that can ruin your pc
it is not compulsory but necessary for shutting down of your pc when power fails in between some running programs or when computer is on
It will keep your hardware safe from sudden static voltage surges bound to happen in sudden shutdown without going through full sequence of shutdown procedure.
