Ellen’s the talk of the town in tour of Hub

TV talk show fave Ellen DeGeneres and wife, actress Portia de Rossi DeGeneres, hot-footed it out of the Hub last night bound for summer vacation after spending yesterday being feted and fawned over by fans, local TV types and, yes, Mayor Tom Menino.

“You’ve just made this my favorite city,” DeGeneres told thousands of Ellenistas who turned up at Faneuil Hall Marketplace where Hizzoner proclaimed it “EllenDeGeneresDayinda–CityaBoston.”

Ellen, if you don’t know by now, was in town with Mizz Portia of “Arrested Development” fame to shoot promos for her show that will slide into Oprah’s old time slot at 4 p.m. on WCVB starting Aug. 22. Do make friends with your DVR.

The N’Awlins native, who blew into Boston with her enormous entourage Tuesday night and bedded down at the Mandarin Oriental, started the day in front of the cameras on the harbor walk that runs behind the federal courthouse. with that boffo Boston backdrop, she shot vids with “NewsCenter 5” anchors Heather Unruh and Ed Harding.

Then it was off to the Prudential Center to hop aboard a Boston Duck Tour for a ride to Faneuil Hall Marketplace to meet Menino and a bigger mob of admirers. We later heard E and P did some shopping at the Pru, but we couldn’t confirm.

Anyway, thousands of fans — albeit a smaller group than greeted the Boston Bruins [team stats] and the Stanley Cup earlier this summer (but not by much!) — lined the streets to see whether Ellen would bust out her famous dance moves while rolling through town. of course, she did not disappoint after her speaking gig on the steps at historic Quincy Market where she also congratulated fans on the B’s Stanley Cup win. the girl did her homework!

After some interviews with local media types, Ellen and Portia went off the grid for the afternoon but re-emerged about 5:30 p.m. back at the Liberty Hotel to hold court in Scampo for two hours with the suits from Channel 5, on-air talent, clients of the station and DeGeneres’ new Boston BFF, Mayor Menino.

Boston’s top pol, because he’s Italian and never goes anywhere empty-handed, presented El with a Bruins jersey of her very own. she seemed impressed, but will she wear it on her summer vacation?!?

Chef Lydia Shire, we’re told, planned a special menu for the Hollywood it Couple, who are vegans. (Not only are the DeGenereses vegans, they just started a Web site promoting their anti-animal diet.) on the menu at Scampo were native corn agnolotti with a drizzle of truffle honey and chilled melon soup cocktails. Mmmm.

Lydia also designed a special chef’s jacket for Ellen that said “Scampo loves You” on the front and had a purple heart with “Portia” in it on the back left shoulder. and if that wasn’t enough, Chef also packed up a to-go box of Scampo snacks for the plane ride to their vacation destination.

On hand for the Ellenfest at Scampo were WCVB-TV’s GM Bill Fine, morning team Bianca de la Garza and Randy Price; weather gal J.C. Monahan; anchors Unruh and Harding; consumer chick Susan Wornick; Eliot Tatelman from Jordan’s Furniture; and the folks from Bernie & Phyl’s.

On her way out of town, Ellen tweeted, “I love Boston! thanks for all the love and support. #ElleninBoston.”

It’s all supposed to be hush-hush and on the DL, but we hear former “Baywatch” babe Traci Bingham has had it with Hollywood — and its pool of hound dogs — and is heading home to the Hub to start a business and film a reality show!

Details are sketchy, but here’s what we know: the Cambridge sexpot, born Julie Anne Smith, has exhausted the Tinseltown scene, is looking for love and, BTW, she’s rather put out that new Patriots [team stats] wide receiver Ochocinco is taken!

“oh, she’s a BIG fan of his,” said Someone Who Knows. “It’s not that she can’t find a man, but she’s picky. and she’s waaaaaaaaaaay hotter than (his fiancee) Evelyn (Lozada).” Rut-roh.

Might not be that good to be true. I saw the ebay add and it looks like an OK bike, nothing performance or high end about it. Worth the $200+, if you know something about bike assembly. A shop will do it but charge $50+ to do it. Best of luck and riding!

cgi.ebay.com/Kona-Fire-Mountain-s…

I bought a GMC Denali for $177 plus tax, assembled, equally good bike. What is the catch? Do you have to "send" them money? Or can you go see it?

If the bike is Truly unassembled, spend a little extra money on having put together for you. you will need tools and experience you most likely do not have. plus having an experienced bike mechanic do the work ensures it is done properly and that the bike is safe to ride.

No deal on a bike is a good deal if you can't get the bike on the road, or if it is unsafe once you do.

How can you switch your UK IP address to a US ip address using a BT home hub (black)?

I really want to switch it since there are alot of good streaming sites back in the states but they are blocked this side of the pond. how can I switch it to where i will be able to view these sites also without paying for a VPN? Thanks

You can use TOR. It's a free anonymous network to help people like you circumvent overzealous restrictions. it will be slow, but hey, it works.

torproject.org/

It won't nessesarily make you a US IP address, but may proxy you through any IP all over the world who has a relay set up (in South Africa, Ireland, the US etc…)

For ease of use, I recommend you use firefox with the TOR button or foxyproxy, to switch easily between proxied and non-proxied mode

Hotspot Shield – free here
download.cnet.com/Hotspot-Shield/…

You can't do this. your only real option would to go through a proxy that makes it appear that you are stateside.

I did not contest my divorce because my husband had the goods on me, but now I want those secret photos! How?

I don't want to re-hash everything here because some people were very abusive to me in my last two posts, but to sum up: I had an affair, am sorry, my hub and me did get a divorce but now I've moved back in with him and the kids.

He's still a bit sulky and apprehensive about our reconciling, but I need to get something from him, namely, the photos that he had a private eye secretly take of me and the guy I was with. They are very incriminating. I settled with my hub for fear that these pics would become part of the public record. my hub did show the pics to his Euro-trash girlfriend at one point — I know this b/c I had a confrontation with her and she yelled "go do it on a picnic table!" which is what the pics have me doing.

I'm a lawyer in good standing but the DA here is trying to get me in trouble and I have decided to fight back. I have screened to run on the GOP ticket against the DA this November along with McCain, a true patriot. but I need the sex pics.

Dear God Almighty–I sure hope the kids arent knowledgable of all of this–you're a cheater out in public doing it on a picnic table, dad's got a trashy girlfriend, and now you're living together under one roof and you're snooping around all over the place. Oh, yeah, we need you in politics for sure!!!

just ask him, tell him you are sorry about what happened and you can't change anything, but you would like to destroy these pictures so they don't surface later on and ruin both of you, if he cares anything at all about you he should give them up and destroy them in front of you.

You can dress this up all you want with your brains and connections, but you and your hubby both sound like complete idiots.

You won't get the pics back…ever. no PI worth his salt is going to hand them over without keeping negatives.

Your poor kids. maybe the next time you pose the question, at least pretend they matter and people won't be quite so nasty.

Not bad, a married Republican Lawyer getting banged on the picnic table.

He would be doing us a public service to post them on the internet.

Using the Republican standard of a B J being an impeachable offence, you really should be disbarred.

You're only going back to get those pictures. I don't think you give a damn about him and the kids…..

Clearly those sex pics will ruin your career, and you're toying with your family in order to get them.

THAT, my dear, is messed up!

McCain!? Yuck! Too bad, should have thought about it before doing it in a PUBLIC place! Your loss!

Calling your husband a patsy for taking you back? how sad! Just confirms why cheaters should never be taken back!

answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

Ask him what you could do for him to get what you want .

You never know if there is something he would enjoy in trade , like , you, the Euro-Trash girl friend and some wine .

You never know ,

Oh my. Nice relationship you guys have. I don't see why you are so concerned about photos if you go around having sex in public places. .

You are a born s**t !!!! Your good standing in records doesn't reflect your good standing as a person. God really bless America if people like you start entering politics.

Enjoy the hard road !!!!!!!!

Your just going to have to ask him and explain why you want them destroyed. Remember there is always a good chance the private eye kept copies.

What do you call 1,000 lawyers chained together at the bottom of the sea?

A good start!

Flash some cash in front of the private eye.

Slap a habbius Corpus on his @ss

want to **** me on a picnic table? please

Aks Spitzer how to handle that sort of thing :-) ). So McCain is a true patriot and who isnt on your side isnt, is that what you want to say ?
Also Grace for best answer :p
Seriously though you shouldnt think so much about the pics and your political career as focusing more on the marriage. Iam dumbstruck you are asking the voters on advice on how you can decieve them.
ARE YOU FOR REAL !!!?!
Seriously you make Nixon blush.

i fear that so long as he is sulky and apprehensive that he will hold onto the pics and negatives. the fact that you are openly after the photos will only add to his insecurity. for the time being the best that you should expect is for your hubby to be understanding of your concerns about their release and to confirm to your that they are safely put away where only he has access to them. hopefully they are in a safety deposit box somewhere.

The destruction of the evidence should have been a condition of you moving back in. I was in a similar situation, the wife had a collection of IM's I sent to other women, we worked it out but she held on to those Im's for a long time. At one point I asked her to destroy them as a birthday gift to me.

What's the difference between a Hub and a Switch?

I have a router that only has 4 ports and I have 5 computers, how can I get internet on all 5?

Will buying a Hub or a Switch bog my internet down?

What would you buy to solve this problem?

i'd get a bigger router. a hub and a switch are the same. If you have standard cable internet, a hub or switch will require you to get an ip address for each PC. (may cost lots with your isp). a router takes the ip from your isp and uses it while giving each computer its own IP address to communicate with the router.

You could try hooking a hub to the router, that might allow you to connect more. You could also look into wireless cards and a wireless router. some wireless routers can have over 127 machines connected.

You can add either a hub or switch to your router to expand the number of ports you have available. a hub is usually best for a small home or office network without a lot of traffic simply because it is cheaper. a switch is smarter than a hub and can contain static routes, can divide a network into subnets, and can do packet switching. a hub, on the other hand, is nothing but a multiport repeater and will re-broadcast everything it receives out on all ports except the one one it received the data from. some switches are smarter and more powerful than others, but all switches are smarter than hubs. Routers (true routers, your home network router is the least sophisticated type) are the high end workhorses for any network. a true router is a highly sophisticated, expensive, industrial-grade piece of hardware that helps form the backbone of the Internet. (see brighthub.com/computing/hardw… )

For 5 computers, a hub is acceptable. If price is not a problem, get a switch.

Hi,

I would buy a switch as they are faster than a hub.

Depending on the router you may be able to do without that unless it is required to get onto the net,

No, the switch should not slow down your internet connection but the speed will depend on how many other pc's are using the net at the same time.

Arnak

Boy oh boy did you get a lot of incorrect answers on this one.

You have what is called a switch / router, which is a router with a 4 port network switch integrated into a single unit. If you need to link more than 4 LAN devices, you purchase an unmanaged network switch and connect one of the router switch ports to one of the new network switch ports. this enables all LAN devices to share the internet connection.

Under no circumstance do you replace the router with a large switch and have separate public IP addresses for each device. this is not how to address the need.

I do not know of any router that comes with a built in switch with more than 4 ports. they may be available but I have not seen this.

You do not use two routers to extend the network as one of the respondants has recommended. this only complicates things needlessly and makes the hardware costs higher than need be.

Your ISP provides you an internet service of a given speed of X Mbps. It delivers X Mbps to the router regardless of whether you have one or many LAN devices behind the router. Now if you have several LAN pcs downloading large files at the same size, the X Mbps of download capacity is devided approximately equally among all of the users. this may make you feel that the internet is bogged down but in reality you are servicing several users.

Some routers are lightweight home grade routers that sell for a low price, have few capabilities, have lightweight processors, and can handle a few LAN devices. they are designed for this environment.

Other routers are heavyweight industrial grade router that sell for a higher price, have more capabilities, have more powerful processors, and can handle a large number of LAN devices. they are designed for the larger user environment.

Regardless of the router type, no router can accelerate the Internet speed beyond the speed from the ISP.

Hubs are probably no longer made. Switches replaced them long ago. both devices look alike but differ markedly.

Hubs are fairly unintellegent devices where all devices try to transfer data at the same time. If packets collide, all traffic stops and restarts later. Higher traffic = more collisions = more stopped time = bottleneck on the LAN.

Switches are a bit smarter. they do not have their own IP address unless they are managed switches, and you do not want or need managed switches for your application. Switches orderly transfer switching from one device to another avoiding collisions and downtime from collisions so they are a lot more efficient. a LAN that is bogged down from an overworked hub will transfer data faster on the LAN by replacing the hub with a switch – and this is another reason why switches are more popular. Switches used to cost more than hubs but the cost difference became very small about 7 – 8 years ago and this hastened the end of hub demand in the marketplace.

My recommendation is for you to buy an unmanaged network switch and use it as mentioned above.

I trust the above has been helpful.

well, hubs are obsolete and you probably won't even find one for sale for a decent price. just get a 5 port switch, it will work just fine. If some of the computers have gigabit ethernet ports, i might recommend getting a gigabit switch just so that file transfers between those computers will be a ton faster (its pretty incredible, transfer a couple gigs in a minute :D ). I have had a setup like that before and its no issue, the router still handles all the computers being connected to it just fine.

For my money, GTB down below has a fantastic explanation of how switches and hubs and routers work.

You either need a bigger router with more ports, or a second router of the same size that you'd plug into the first one.
Alternatively, you could install wireless cards in your computers and buy a wireless router. this would allow you to have hundreds of computers on the same network and get rid of your clutterful wires.

I had the same situation as you. I just added a hub to my network and everything is fine.

There will not be a noticeable change in your internet or network speed.

No it wont slow you down. either is fine. You could also just put one computer on wireless if you have a wireless router.

I would buy an 8 port router…

Working With Effective Online Business Network Hubs to Grow Your Business!

Working with Effective Online Business Network Hubs to Grow Your Business!

Finding an “effective” online business network strategy that you can fully trust and rely on to bring you real, profitable leads and business referrals is rather hard to come by online.

While there are many free network hubs online that you can easily join, you have to first look at their effectiveness. Some of the things I believe they need to be effective are:

1. an easy way to spread your business and brand throughout the network via an intuitive interface that pushes your business and what you do, out through the network automatically.

2. Extremely good training as part of the service, so you know without a shadow of a doubt that the steps you follow are going to be successful for you, because their built on proven strategies from real experts in business who have “done it” before.

3. a way to connect with other members in “real life” if you wish, you see there’s a tonne of online business network hubs about, but hardly any have a local chapter, or member you can connect with live. and live one-on-one connection is the key to bringing in business for your company or business.

4. Engulfing of all other online business network hubs, business networks, and marketing methods, so that it compliments the other businesses, rather than is seen as a competitor and when you apply for membership, you’re restricted in your access due to membership in other business networks.

5. Access to referral partners, that are highly qualified in their chosen area, who have been accepted as members because of their expertise, not just because their out there trying to flog their services / products to everyone. This is extremely important when running a “high quality” online business network operation, as trust and effectiveness is the key.

So as you can see, some of the most important feedback I’ve had from people in certain online business networks and local hubs is that the members are being “sold to” too much and feeling pressured by their clubs, or their club has too many “restrictions” or “rigid rules”, and finally that they simply aren’t getting the results from their investment. Which of course means they aren’t making and investment in their business but rather, discovering their network membership is a “liability” instead.

I don’t want this for you and your business, but just saying it isn’t enough. you need to fully research and explore your network hub before joining, read testimonials of real results, if they can’t give you any, think long and hard before you invest any money.

The same goes for so called free online business network hubs, if their free, but you get no results, it’s a liability in eating up your time and effort in building your business network. and because there’s already so many other activities all competing for your time, you only want to invest your time into the ones that return you the best value.

I hope this helps you to “open your eyes” so that you can grow your business and learn the art of attraction marketing online.

Moving to cali.. need some advice marriage on the rocks?

Okay here goes. my hub is 30 and im 23 . we have a son 1 and 2 dogs. we are preg again and due july 28. also my hub will be leaving the military jun 26 and plans on moving to cali for his reserve time. he wants to move in the same neighborhood as his mom and dad (who are housing his 37 year old sis and her 2 kids since forever) and i just dont want to do that. his sis and i dont get along and his brother is nice and very mature. he keeps to him self and doesnt get involved. his mom on the other hand is always in our business and seems to talk to me about my family problems ( which i never brought up with her to begin with) . it bothers me and my husband doesnt really care. he wants to do his own thing and wants to go "home". we have a house in ky and we bought it. with the market being down i have no clue how we are going to sell. plus we have only lived in it for a year and our credit isnt the best. im so nervouse about moving to cali since his WHOLE family lives there and only my mom and dad live there. i have grown up partly in the south and in germany so cali is very different for me. when we talk about my fears and some concerns it ends in a fight. I dont have a clue what i should do and im stressing out big time. i dont know how to talk to him since he has already made up his mind and is excited. he has already called his family and told them and they are like super excited. Im going ot be singled out since i cant stand them. my hubs sis has never had a real job and has 2 kids that she doesnt support. she has a mastersdegree and thinks she is better than everyone else. i cant even stand to be in the same room as her cause she is one of those people that always as the right answer. (weather its right or wrong) her answer is the best. She will argue with you until you are ready to hit her and just thinks she is the ****. her 2 kids are out of control and have NO DICIPLINE. they destroyed my house the last time they came to visit us and i about lost it. my hub did not stand behind me he left me out to dry. we went to cali and had a huge fight and he left me out to dry for his family again. I really will be needing his help with the baby when its due and im just stressing out so bad! thanks for your help..

Does your husband know as much as you just shared with the yahoo community? is he aware of how miserable you've already decided you're going to be if forced to move to California? and if so, what is his reaction? Does he even care? Sounds like there are lot more issues here than simply moving to California.
