I want to watch movies, videos and stream live tv on my laptop while I am working on my desktop. can I use the same adsl modem for both computers at the same time?

Yes, you can. as long as that dsl modem has another ethernet port where you can connect for you laptop computer. However, if it has one ethernet port then you need to get a router for you to connect more than one computer and share internet connection.

To get step by step you will need to tell us which router you have, I don't think we have a telepathy section.
The 100Mbps is the connection speed from your computer to your router, it's just the ethernet link.
