RIABiz.com was founded on August 3, 2009, with offices in Sausalito, Calif., and Alexandria, Va., as an online publication for Registered Investment Advisors and those people who want to know more about them.
We believe that our first obligation is to writing articles that keep RIAs informed about their own business. these are newsier pieces focused on services, products and services that immediately target them or the regulatory environment that can affect their future. As part of this coverage we have a “Breakaway Stories” section dedicated to brokers leaving wirehouses to join or become RIAs.
Yet we’re also placing an increasing emphasis on getting the best thinkers in the RIA, 401(k) and advisory technology industry to contribute thoughts in their area of expertise.
We chose to put RIAs in the spotlight – and in our name — because we believe that the choice made by these firms to provide fiduciary care to clients says most about what they are. We believe that the investors who control most of the wealth in the United States are fast catching on to the distinction between RIAs and investment brokers. Decisions made by lawmakers and regulators are only adding impetus to this trend.
Because of this shift in the perception of consumers and the larger public, we believe that eventually all advisors will need to adopt the RIA business or be faced with declining business fortunes.
