My computer has a "Integrated 10/100/1000 Base-T networking interface" so it is cable of using Category 6 cable. I am wondering if it would make a difference if I switch my category 5 cable with 6? (it will connect be via router) my internet speed is 10mbps (Rogers Hi-speed express).
It can be done, but you will not notice a difference. unless you have a sophisticated router Cat-5e would handle any load you put to it. The Cat-6 is backwards compatible with Cat-5 but as I said, no noticeable difference.

I know you have to have to have no more than 1/2 inch untwisted of a cat 5e pair but does it matter if you remove all of the cat5e outer plastic sheath as long as you dont untwist the pair?
You are likely using UTP(unshielded twisted pair) cabling. if you are using UTP cable then removing the sheath should not effect performance. It will leave the wires more vulnerable to being damaged though so i wouldn't recommend it.
Untwisting the twisted pairs does cause problems with cross-talk. you would not want to do that.
You're fine…just make sure you don't remove all the sheathing. Cross talk hardly happens – with today's cat5 and cat6 – the twists are so tight, it's a pain just to mess with it. I've never heard cross talk on the line before or seen latency because the pairs were untwisted. I think that's a myth that old school tip and ring instructors put in their books.
What you don't want to do is remove over 1/2 inch of the outer sheathing……..you want to maintain the twist all the way to the point of termination. The twist is very important as it prevents crosstalk.

I ran cat 5 cable under newly installed carpet , but it doesn't quite reach my target hardware. I want to connect my router to my Playstation 3, but wire is just a bit short. What are my options?
You can get an end to end cat5 connector pretty cheap. then just addon a 2nd ethernet cable to make up the difference.
They make a female/female RJ45 Coupler. That would be the easiest. Or get a longer cable…
being it is under the carpet, a coupler isn't the best method as it is a little bulky and adds another point of failure. replace it with a longer patch cord, you can pick up ad home dumpo or just about any hardware/electronics store in just about any length.
you can use RJ45 coupler's to connect rj45 cables ..they are cheap and efficient.

An easy-to-use cable identifier system which solves disorganized, “tangled-mess” cable rack conditions is now available as PatchSee® “Patch Cords” from Mitsubishi International Corp, Optical Products Division, New York, NY.Features incorporate two (2) plastic optical fibers built–in to standard Cat5, Cat6 and Cat6a patch cords along with convenient LED light injection. This enables users to identify and secure both ends of a patch cord without tracing cables or disconnections causing “line-down” conditions. at the same time, PatchSee® defines various cable line functions by providing sixteen (16) color coded, removable clips that easily snap-on the RJ45 connectors. The clips negate the need for maintaining varied color patch cord lengths and reduce inventories. The color-coded clips eliminate any need for cable labels. Ideally suited for data processing centers, networking, office automation, industrial control and similar panels, these new entries provide operators with time, money and stress-reducing capabilities. all meet EIA/TIA standards and are compatible with computer cabling equipment and switches. a 25-year product use warranty accompanies each PatchSee® patch cord.Key specifications include: Zero-Halogen, PVC sheathed (UTP) types; 11)standard lengths 2 to 16 ft. (0.6 to 4.9m) plus a long length direct cable 20.1ft. – 165 ft. (6.1m – 50m); operations to 10Gbts bandwidth (Cat 6A); a choice of multiple color battery or rechargeable battery LED light injectors.
