EDIMAX Technology, network communication products provider, has announced the launch of the AR-7211A/B, an ADSL2+ modem router with a WAN, LAN, and USB port.
Edimax's AR-7211A router
The AR-7211A/B is a broadband router with an integrated ADSL2+ modem, which enables it to run at speeds of up to 24Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream. It features an RJ-11 WAN port for the ADSL connection, and both an RJ-45 Ethernet LAN port and a USB port for wired connections with other network devices. Installing the USB driver also enables users to access the Internet via the USB port.
A connection diagram for the router
The router is backward compatible with existing ADSL services and interoperable with legacy equipment. It supports G.992.1 (G.DMT), G.992.2 (G.Lite), G.992.3 (ADSL2), G.992.4 (splitterless ADSL2), and G.992.5 (ADSL2+) for Annex A, B, L. the router comes with an EZmax multi-language wizard that has animated and easy-to-follow instructions to guide users through the setup process. It also consists of a firewall that can protect computers from SYN floods, ping of deaths, Teardrop attacks, Smurf attacks, fragile attacks, and LAND attacks. One can deny users access to services like the Web, Telnet, Ping, FTP, and SNMP. One can also block designated IP addresses and deny them access to the Internet for increased security.
The Market operating price of the AR-7211 A/B ADSL modem router is Rs 1,200 with a 3-year warranty by Edimax.

According to a report by security researchers at SBA Research, Austrian broadband provider UPC has given its customers wireless routers that set up an undocumented second wireless network that is not properly protected. It turns out that UPC’s Thomson TWG850-4U router always uses the same SSID and the same WPA key (password) for this wireless network (WLAN). in addition to the WPA key, users also have to know the SSID to connect to the network; networks with a hidden SSID – the name of the wireless network – do not appear in a normal overview of wireless devices.
Because the network is not isolated from the main WLAN, the researchers say that attackers can access both the internet and other computers in the network. Unwelcome guests can even access the router’s configuration interface to read out the WPA key set by UPC customers and change critical configuration parameters.
In a brief drive through Vienna, the security researchers say they found “hundreds of networks in just a few streets” that they could have gained access to and taken over. UPC provides the TWG850-4U to all customers who choose the company’s combined TV and internet package. a UPC spokesperson confirmed the problem to The H’s associates at heise Security, adding that approximately 100,000 of the aforementioned wireless routers are currently in circulation.
UPC reacted promptly and today, three days after the problem was made public, announced the publication of an emergency patch which is gradually and automatically being distributed to the devices affected. The researchers who discovered the hole told heise Security that the hidden WLAN is no longer set up after the firmware update.
Customers of UPC’s Dutch subsidiary faced a similar problem last November. after a firmware update, a different Thomson router also set up an invisible network there, but it could not be used to gain access to the configuration interface and other computers in the network. UPC said these problems occurred because of “new possibilities” planned for the future.

linksys router (wrt54g) I don't have the cd for it and i cant seem to get it setup.. have it connected to my dsl modem and can pick up the network wirelessly, just cant get it to let me access the internet.
whoa, part of that info is correct, just connect your computer to the router with it on, type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar put in admin – admin for username and pw, and just work through the settings there. mainly just need to setup the wireless settings, everything else should be fine if left at default settings. DON'T set it to pppoe, just leave it on dhcp, it will work fine.
is this the first time u set it up? if it is u'd need to bridge ur modem and setup ur router to PPOE if i'm not mistaken.
the usual ip for linksys is 192.168.1.1
once u enter that in ur internet broswer a box will pop up to enter username and password
default is
username: admin
password:admin
after that call ur isp and tell them u need help bridging ur modem

Right now, I have a Netgear Wireless Router and my teenage child goes on Myspace. I wanted to make my network more secure so, I wanted to run a non-wireless router into my teenager's computer and then plug the wireless router into the wired router. How complicated is this?
Or, should I just upgrade to the 802.11n wireless router with a double firewall option.

I have a linksys router, and I use the wifi a lot. But as soon as I get 40 feet away it cuts out of range. it there a setting I can fix or do I have to go out and buy router or signal booster?
I believe in KISS so a basic solution MAY be best. Complications ALWAYS cause problems.
Clearly you want to spend as little money as possible- so to the two replies I see, I would add my suggestion you buy in a 9dBi gain antenna for the router.
These can be bought for about GBP10 on eBay and should offer some sort of gain at appreciable distance from the router. Simply unscrew the supplied antenna and replace with the new. it is as simple as that!
You can buy another router and use it as a WiFi repeater (I'm not sure what model will do it with stock firmware but ASUS 5XX series with DD-WRT should do it). You may also try to flash your router with 3rd party firmware like D-WRT and increase the transmitter power. Or you may try upgrading to 802.11n standard, it should have extended range comparing to 802.11g
placement of the router can make a world of difference. Signal falls and bounces. less walls the better and the higher the router the better.
Also don't laugh but check these vids. a simple foil dish will direct the signal where you want it to go.

If you want to spend the money you can get range expanders and additional access points.

If your business relies on internet connectivity to stay productive (and most do these days!), a reliable high-speed internet connection is a must. But as many businesses have found out, even the most reliable connections fail from time to time, and even a brief internet outage can cost your business time, productivity, and money. Even the most reliable cable internet service is only reliable about 99% of the time – meaning your business still faces up to up to 140 hours each year of "internet downtime" where your business is off-line!
we are thrilled to announce our new 3Gstore 3G Failover Solutions, which allow you to utilize an affordable, reliable cellular broadband backup so that when your primary internet connection fails, you'll be back online and doing business again in a matter of moments. "3G Failover" simply refers to maintaining a backup internet connection that takes over for the primary connection when it fails. 3Gstore’s 3G Failover Solutions utilize a cellular broadband connection, powered by DataJack's nationwide 3G network, that serves as a backup when your cable, DSL, or T-1 line goes down, so that your business does not need to come to a standstill in the event of an internet outage!
Maintaining internet connectivity is obviously a must for businesses, but we know that affordability is also a major factor. 3Gstore's 3G Failover Solution is incredibly affordable. The 3G USB modem costs $119.99, plus a one-time activation fee of $29.99. you will also need a 3G router, which costs $170-$270 (depending on the router you select). The 3G service costs just $15/month plus $0.05/mb - so if you don't use it at all one month, you pay just $15. If your primary connection does go down and you do use the backup connection, usage is billed at $0.05/mb. One megabyte goes a long way in terms of ATM, kiosk, POS or similar applications – up to 2,000 credit card transactions can be completed with just one megabyte of data! To estimate what your service costs will be in the event of an internet outage, use our "cost estimator" at our 3G Failover Solution Advisor. And there is NO contract for the 3G service.
3Gstore's 3G Failover Solutions are available NOW. Read more, estimate your costs, and place an order at 3Gstore.com/failover

Every time the electricity goes out, the Linksys RTP300 router loses power. usually, after resetting it and plugging the power cable back in, it comes back on but this time it's not. Is there any other troubleshooting technique to get back any power?
You Didn't Pay the electric bill.
Is your router on a surge protector? if it is not constant losing power and bring power back to it can affect the transistor's or the capacitor's u may need to get a new router and hook it up to a surge protector also you might want to look into getting a PSU (power supply unit) battery pack so if the power does go out it have a batery to run off till the power comes back on
