Is this a good college application essay (a little long, but I'll give you ten points for a good answer :))?

I was prompted to write about a person who had an influenced my life.

Lucky

The moment I met Miss Sarah Martin, I forgot her name. It would be three weeks before I remembered it and a month before I addressed her directly. her words on our first interaction were not in any way extraordinary or memorable. her words and actions in our encounters after that, however, are the most vivid and meaningful memories I have. I never expected a woman with such a small role in my life to become my greatest influence, but in her subtle way, she managed it.

Miss Martin was a student teacher assigned to my 11th grade English course. She had few responsibilities as such, most of her time was focused on the minor tasks of handing out papers, grading tests, and observing the class. even so, in this limited capacity she managed to become a favorite among her students. from the second day onward, she greeted each of us by name and with a smile as we walked in the door to class, and extended this courtesy anytime she passed one of us in the hall. during class discussions she encouraged every idea; regardless of how bizarre or partially thought out it may have been, she always gave the right amount of attention to everyone’s thoughts. for me, her acceptance and praise gave me confidence and hope I never had. She is the only person I ever felt believed in me.

I was lucky to have met Miss Martin and have her in my life, if only as a student teacher. my luck drastically increased in October of that year as our assigned teacher decided to have a surgical procedure, which would cause her to be on leave for the rest of the year. Although she
could have opted to transfer to another school and continue as a student teacher, Miss Martin stayed with us and became our full time teacher. Throughout the year, my life changed dramatically because of her class.

Before Miss Martin’s class, I was unhappy with my life. I was incredibly shy, had no self esteem or confidence, and constantly increased my insecurities and low self worth by being hyper critical of myself and being cynical about the world. her example and treatment of me changed all of this. Through her genuine kindness and unshakable optimism, she erased the effects of seventeen years of negativity.

In nine months, Miss Martin never raised her voice or became agitated in any way. That is not to say she avoided conflict or let bad behavior slide, she dealt with everything in a calm and understanding way. She saw the person beyond an unfavorable action and appealed to the good in that person to remedy the situation. our actions could be undesirable, but that never altered her high opinion of any of us. I never caused trouble in class, but seeing how Miss Martin could have faith in people despite imperfection caused me to be less critical of the world and of myself. even if I could not see or acknowledge it, Miss Martin made me believe there was good in me. her care for the people in her life showed me that I deserved to be loved and respected and that I needed to love and respect others, without judgment or hesitation.

My social anxiety slowly dissolved as Miss Martin gently coaxed me out of my shell. Although she never said anything about it, she could tell I had difficulty in dealing with people. I could not say good morning until she had done so first, I opted to work by myself when she assigned group projects, and I avoided sharing any ideas during open discussions. Miss Martin never forced me to do anything I did not want to do, she did however nudge me slightly out of my comfort zone when she saw the opportunity to do so. She started conversations with me, she
encouraged me to work with other people, and during discussions she always asked me directly for an opinion. That little bit of extra support from her showed me that there was nothing to fear from others. The ridicule and judgment I anticipated did not exist. instead, my efforts were met with acceptance, understanding, and every once in awhile, praise for a good idea that otherwise would have been kept to myself.

I do not know who I would be without Miss Martin. I do know how lucky I am that she was assigned to my class and that she became my regular teacher. I know how lucky I am she took an interest in me. I know that my ambition in life is to be the Miss Martin to others who do not consider themselves as lucky as I am.

take out the as such in the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph doesnt sound right in that context. overall this was a decent essay, but decent is the key word here, I havent read many college essays but those I have heard of are almost every time based on "someone that changed my life" now depending on the colleges you are applying to this may be fine but if you are looking at tougher schools then I would scrap this ans start over think of something original, one person I know wrote his essay on the relationship a boy has with his childhood dog… and it was really really good and emotional, using words other than then the typical "lucky, praise" basic words that are used everyday! again this all depends on what college you are going to a good one or a lesser one.

Where can i buy a set of surgical instruments?

im looking to buy a cheap or plastic set to use in studying their identifications for surg-tech school. any ideas???

Actually, there are thousands of instruments! and even scissors have different names (mayo, allen etc) try looking at the web sites for on-line surgical instrument catalogs (goggle a few of the names of instrument manufacturers a good one is that german co–sorry brain fart here) for pictures & descriptions. I down loaded & printed these pictures and glued them on "trays" when I was teaching my MA class how to set up simple trays. This will be infinitely cheaper that getting some. there are no plastic sets that I know of & disposable instruments are generally simple suture type sets (not many instruments: needle drivers & hemostats & forcepts).

You can buy them from
amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&…
Hope this helps
Good luck!

at a medical supply house!!! but check with the proceuremet office at a large hospital – ask them what they do with there old worn out sets!!! they might donate a set!!!

If Israel Attacks US?

Israel today launched a massive air assault on suspected terrorist targets along coastal cities of the United States of America. Termed operation just Reward II, hundreds of Israeli fighter jets streamed across the Atlantic in precise formation and fired surgical air strikes at alleged terrorist strongholds in the heavy Muslim populations of Jersey City and North Bergen, New Jersey. The jets then continued south, inflicting massive destruction in the densely populated northeastern US state.

Reaction to the attacks was swift. President Bush asked for restraint, but stated emphatically that “Israel had the right to defend itself.”

So when did you break out from the mental hospital?

If we allowed terrorists to operate out of the US, like Lebanon has, and they attempted to destroy Israel, then we would be bringing a war on ourselves wouldn't we?

Just like Lebanon brought it on themselves for not disarming Hezbollah.

I actually think you are an idiot.

Israel will not attack the U.S. you sound like you have problems.

I think this scenario is stupid for one… im pretty sure that Israel doesnt have "hundreds" of fighter jets… and Israel would never attack the United States to begin with.

Wow, you really need to chill out. Doesn't all of this hate ever wear you out?? Peace out and rock on.

Funny, but too unrealistic. Israel would be in Muslim hands by now if it wasn't for the US military, financial and political support. They cannot exist without America.

This is really, really, REALLY dumb!

Definitely an interesting scenario though I believe strongly that
#1 Israel wouldn't hit its closest and most powerful ally
#2 Israel is not capable of such an attack
#3 Even someone of Bush's low intellect would not condone such an attack

But, in a Tom Clancy sort of way, your question is quite interesting to ponder.

They'd better not touch North Bergen. my favorite radio host lives there. I understand what you are saying. I think you're illustrating the shrewdness that is likened unto used car salesmen, pimps and insurance salesmen.

Fighter jets across the Atlantic? you are completely clueless, aren't you?

Let's say for sake of argument that the US were allowing thousands of Jihadi Terrorists to operate within our borders. not just allowing, mind you, but actively aiding these men to attack other countries and kill and main civillians.

Would there be justification for an attack? you bet there would be.

Any country that does not do everything in it's power to fight Jihadis and their evil actions is a friend to our enemies and subject to having others come in to clean up their mess.

Israel is not an enemy, but an ally. The President would be asking for help from Israel and working with them, like was done during WWII. Israel would NOT just strike cities in the US.

Those dogs would not bite the hand that feeds them. Great imagination though.

Israel has already attacked the USA when it attacked the USS Liberty (an intelligence vessel) on June 8th 1967 killing 34 US service men and wounding at least 173 others. Israel being America's "mini me" the incident was covered up by the Pentagon, was called "a tragic mistake" . seems Israel makes a lot of "tragic mistakes" like bombing a well known UN outpost for 10 hours.

Israel can do whatever it wants to whomever it wants with impunity. The Chosen People (if they had the capability) could bomb NJ with weapons paid for by the American tax payer and not even receive a slap on the wrist.

it would be cool if israel attacks US

You stopped taking your meds, didn't you?

I think that this would never happen unless they became more powerful than the US ,and this is not likely to happen , at least for the coming decade.
