My cat was abused and is very skiddish and afraid. l want to shave the fur off inside his ears. The fur seems to bother him. or, should l use scissors or a hand shaver?
if the fur is bothering him – take the cat to a vet as the cat probably has ear mites
DO NOT try and clip or shave the hair in the cat's ears – they need that hair to stop dirt and foreign bodies from entering the ear.
To answer your question – NO
Do not shave check for ear mites. if he has dark ear wax he has ear mites. You can get a mite killer from the vet, the store ,or even use olive oil as drops to kill them. Don't shave, it is there for a reason,
No dont do it.. Cats grow fur in places because they need it… maybe your cat has an infection in his ear! Take him to the vet..that the best thing to do.
don't cut your cats fur at all and especially do not cut any of the fur on the face. the fur in his ears is very important for keeping the ear clean so dont cut it. your cat might have ear mites. look in his ears and if you see stuff that looks like coffee grounds then your cat has ear mites.
If the fur's bothering him, take him to the vet. The cat's most likely not gonna be too happy about you shaving his ears so will probably move a lot. I wouldn't risk injuring him, as you could easily cut his ear.
You stated the cat was abused in the past. Why on earth do you think the hair in his ears bothers him? All cats have "ear hair", it's there for a reason for example, protecting foreign matter from getting deep in the ear & causing medical problems.I think if you use a electric trimmer you will do more harm than good. I assume you want the cat to trust you & going at him with a clipper isn't gonna' help him bond with you. if you think he has a medical problem get him to the vet. Good-luck
I supposed you CAN, but the question is WHY? Then WHY does it seem the hair bothers your cat. The hair is natural and the cat is used to the hair being there. The hair is there to inhibit particle from entering the ear canal and causing problems. However, ear mites may have entered the ear canal. if the "hair" seems to bother the kitty, it's probably ear mites or some other infection. To prevent kitty from being bothered, please present kitty to your nearest veterinarian for a thorough checkup and some ear mite medication.
The hair inside of his ears is NOT bothering him. It is supposed to be there & there are no reasons for removing it. if his ears are bothering him, then he most likely has an ear infection & needs a vet visit to determine the type & treatment. Do not wait as leaving untreated will cost your cat his hearing & possibly his balance also. if your cat is skittish now, trying to shave the inside of his ears will totally freak him out!!
NEVER touch the hair in in your cats ears…it is there to protect there ears…..take to vet most likely has ear mites or are infected or excessive ear wax…take to your vet and he will check them and will give him what he needs to take care of the problem….his ears are itching him…vet will put medicine in ears and will clear up what ever the problem is……..make an appointment today………GOOD LUCK
No, don't do that. Take it to the vet, it must have mites.
Do NOT shave you cat's ear hair. if he's rubbing at it he may have ear mites. You need to look in his ears and if you see some black stuff, then he has mites and needs medicine to get rid of them. Take him to the vet. never shave the inside of a cat's ears.
