Major Retailers Threaten to Blow Off Steam Supported Games

“Nowadays bricks and mortar retail stores dont cater to pc gamers anyhow. Go into any HMV, Gamestop et al, and you will see how PC games have been relegated to the bargain buy carousel. my local gamestop store has about 45% one side of store xbox games and accessories, 45% the other side ps3 games and accessories, 5% takes up the counter, 4% used dvds/blu rays and 1% pc games in a carousel that dont stock major releases, whose decision was that? Tbh its their own fault, I have had no choice but to go a digital distributor for my pc games. Steam is the perfect solution with all the benefits as mentioned above. Its a little too late for them wanting a slice of the pc gaming market pie. and good luck to them with their own digital distribution platforms, steam is already well established and is number 1 for a good reason. GFWL is an example of a platform that is established, yet doesnt work for pc games, visit the forums of any games that has had it attached and you’ll seen see the complaints, indeed many developers have ditched GFWL because of this – take Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas as an example, Fallout 3 had GFWL attached and had no end of problems, FNV was just recently released – but with integrated steamworks instead. Publishers and developers already know that steam works, and makes more profit for them than tangible pc dvd boxes, no way they will sacrifice this golden goose. So any attempts at their own digital platforms will fail, the bricks and mortar stores will continue to stock budget buy bargain bin games, developers and publishers will still make console games for these stores and sell them by the bucket load, and proper pc gamers will smile and keep on gaming with steam, knowing they have the best deals (publisher and holiday specials and sales), regular updates automatically, support forums, free DLCs (for some games), integrated chat, games available on launch days, purchase games whenever you want (albeit will a small delay to download). Steam wins.”

Compression Bandaging?????

Every year I buy 3m coban tape which is self adhesive (if thats the right word) and ordered some the other day however its come this time with another roll (compression system) its like a bandage with foam on one side and coban on the other so i was wondering how it sticks, and what its used for?

wrapping with the self adhesive tape is for alignment purposes;; compression bandages are used for compression..two totally different articles for two totally different reasons;; the compression bandage is used for swelling & should be placed on the limb in a figure 8 pattern, while the adhesive taping is specific to the joint/alignment function of the limb/part..hope this helps, but maybe they are sending you something 'free' to 'try out'….you SHJOULD not be using the adhesive bandage for swelling..@ ALL…

Doberman ear clipping question?

Yes, I know it is a controversial topic – I do not wish to hear people gripe one way or the other. That's not what I'm here for. What's done is done and it cannot be reversed, so bear that in mind.

My 12 week old doberman had her ears clipped 12 days ago, she's due to have her stitches out tomorrow, the posts and bandages were removed last week and all her swelling is gone. all of the incisions are healthy and healing nicely.

My problem is that one ear is considerably larger than the other. By considerably I mean it is at least 3/8" wider and more flared at the midsection. The shape is very similar to a teardrop instead of a triangle. Actually, it's a curved teardrop because the upper 3/4" is hooked to one side.

The top 2/3 of the ear flops over. I am familiar with "lazy ear" – this is not that. Ok, all that is the shape. The angle is about a 25 degree tilt forward toward the muzzle and looking straight on it is approximately 10 degrees instead of straight up. The side is seriously flared out, very odd looking, almost seashell shaped. (for lack of a better description)

Her other ear is perfect. Nice triangular shape both profile and head on. Sharp angles as well. A 10 degree forward tilt toward the muzzle and a perfect vertical looking straight on. The size is in proportion to her head as well.

Given all that information, I was told that the misshaped ear would change to match the other. I don't buy that at all, something just doesn't magically change shape that drastically in my opinion without corrective surgery. I have no desire to put her through another surgery, just accept the fact that she will never be the show dog that she was intended to be.

Anyone who is familiar with this? I would like some more information prior to complaining to her vet. I can provide a picture of her if needed as well.

CROPPED!!!!
Ears are CROPPED.
Tails are docked!

A CORRECT dobe crop is NOT "triangular"!
Cropping takes ARTISTRY….sounds like you used a BUTCHER.
If you don't have it re-done,it will look like crap…permanently.

You *MUST* KEEP POSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really shouldn't have gotten her ears clipped in the first place but to late for that
you should consult the person who did it when she goes to get the stitches out you may just have to live it

I would like to see your ears chopped off.

There is nothing the breeder can do. Point this out to the vet who did the surgery, when she goes for stitch removal.

The procedure was probably not done correctly or the ear was just clipped wrong. But just to be sure I would ask a vet.

The best person to talk to would be her breeder.

if you really want to show her, then you should get her ear fixed. but if you really dont care, then keep her the way she is.

i have a few suggestions,
-sue the person who did your dogs ears
-if you do sue, then you can buy a different dog to show
-if your willing to, keep your dog for a companion and screw all the showing-lol

My boxers ears are all cropped and from the day of surgery both ears matched perfectly

Had you used a vet that had a good reputation for cropping? Had the breeder recommended the vet?

I had never heard of the ears being different in size and then changing as the ears healed.

I also over my 25+ years of having boxers ever had one that had any swelling post surgery.

The ears are taped in a way so that the area with the stitches get air as well as can be properly cleaned twice a day. posting is not done for the first time until after the stitches are removed at 10-12 days.

I am sorry that you are having such problems with the pups ears, you must be devastated being that she was a show potential pup.

I would contact your breeder and ask what vet they use for the cropping and get a second opinion on the outcome of the pups ears.

As the other poster suggested, I would also look into speaking with an attorney to see if you have any recourse for this serious blunder.

My first reaction is UH OH.

I know my Dobies ears were always the same shape and size from the start after a cropping.

If you do not get satisfactory answers here I suggest you join a YAHOO Dobe group and see if anyone has had ears magically match up after a surgery.

What a shame if this has ruined your dogs show career.

I wonder if you have any legal recourse against the vet as in medical malpractice.

If it were me, I would find a REAL VET from my local Doberman club and get the ears re-cropped NOW if possible.

Oh dear that's not good. once they are cut they are cut…..12 weeks is the cut off for cropping ears because they usually don't stand after that. Most breeders will only get their dogs cropped at reputable vets that have been doing a very good job for a very long time. It's just too easy to mess the ears up!

I have a dobe with show cropped ears, they are extra long. I spent 6 months posting her ears one week up, one week down, and if they were dropping within 3-4 days they were posted up again. Keep at it and maybe both will stand, but the miss shapen one will always be miss shapen. you can try to fix it by posting it just a tad differently than the other, but if you aren't experienced with posting that might not be possible.

Sounds like the vet didn’t match up the marker lines before doing the crop. you know that adage, “Measure twice and cut once”? Well, it’s the same with ear crops. I don’t think the ear will magically become smaller. When is the DPCA going to make cropped ears optional, like Boxers? I think they look great natural.

Sounds like the vet botched the crop. If the ears are not the same size then insist that they do a re-crop and correct the problem. Insist that this be done at no additional charge to you as this was there mistake. If they are a reputable vet known to do a good crop then they won't give you a problem as they want to keep their reputation intact.

You are correct the information claiming the ear will "correct itself" is a bunch of bull. If its not right now then it will never be right unless it is surgically corrected.

That you are saying the ears were posted and are out of posts is a red flag to me to. Ears should not be posted until the stitches are out. They are typically attached to a cup, rack or the top of the head until this is done. Proper Dobie crop is also neither teardrop or triangular, show crop is defiantly not triangular.

If she was not cropped by her breeder then she won't be a show dog anyway if that is your only concern. Breeders of show quality dogs crop ears on all puppies before they are placed, they don't leave it to the new owner to find a vet to do the cropping and risk something like this happening.

Well packaged5I haven’t used any of these, but I like that they are each individually packaged in plastic bags, with clips, for handy storage and transport. I have put several in first aid and emergency packs.
