So that I can plug in more appliances on one spot. Not a surge protector, but the kind that actually attaches directly to the wall/outlet.
Creates 6 outlets where there were only 2.

surge protector or six way ,surge protector is better for expense stuff because if it gets struck by lighting it wont mess it up

don't use one most outlets are rated for 15 or 20 amps if you plug in 6 things theirs a good chance you'll overload it

I saw one for $6.99 at IKEA. it said 72KJ on the official UL label in the back.

I dunno if KJ means kilo-Joules = 1,000 Joules or I'm misunderstanding it.
