So bill M, thanks again for the help, but when i tried all the steps, it did now say one thing about soundcards, so therefore i wasn't able to update the devices. so then, i tried downloading a soundcard off that website you sent me, but it didn't seem very legit, and i was able to download one.
`Sounds to me you wil have to go get a sound card from a store and install it into your pci slot. make sure you tell the sales person or assistance the computer model number as they can look up recommendations for you.

i have a sony vaio latest laptop.my dad gave it to me as a present.everything is good about it except that it doesnt have a line-in port.it has got a port for headphone and other for mic-in port but no line-in port.
i have a yamaha musical instrument keyboard i425 and want to record songs that i play but due to lack of line in port in my laptop i just cant do it.
is there any way out ?
what about usb soundcards which comes with line-in port?
i went to market and asked for such a usb soundcard which has line-in port also but there was no such device..all i got to see is a headphone and a mic in port in all usb soundcard that they showed me.
ppl please help.

yes, some usb sound devices have audio in.
while this is a video capture, it works just fine as audio in…

if you ask me I will say SoundBlaster AWE 64 from 1996 its bit 16 and has good midi sound but SoundBlaster 16 is good too I have some old PC's with it I don't like new computers for they only has PCI slots to modern small soundcards that sucks big time. I want ISA slots so I use 90's PC's (only for games and listen to music on) but for internet I have a bit newer PC a Laptop from 2000 that I use daily.
so what soundcard does you think is the best? I think we will all agree that SoundMax Digital sucks
