Laptop repairs but where?

okay so i have a Toshiba laptop but just recently the AC plug got wiggly and the laptop just wont charge so i was thinking about taking it to best buy where i bought it a couple months ago to see how much it would cost to fix that small problem. Also i heard that some of the geek squad technicians are complete morons and give up after 20 minutes of not knowing what to do so they restore the system and want to charge you over $200 to back up the files but i cant risk that since i have many precious files and pictures on it. Another idea was to send it to Toshiba but i heard it takes way to long to get it fixed and i need the laptop the day after i take it because the average time to fix it is1-2 hours, my last option is going to a small computer repair business since it would be cheaper and they would more likely not go through my files or restore my laptop so tell me what your opinion is.

Try your local computer repair shops most of them do this type of repair. its called the DC Jack Repair. this is a known problem with laptops and expect to pay anywhere from $80-$160 to get this service done.

We do this type of repair but are located in San Diego, CA not sure if you would want to spend the money shipping but if you can not find someone in your area let us know.

your best bet is going in to a small computer repair business.. since its a problom with a hardwar and not something like programs and stuff they shouldnt even need to turn on your comptuer. and just put a password on your computer and they couldnt get into it that easly and i dont think they would.. so ya do that and yes geek squad aint that great and sending it back to toshiba there just gonna but in an already used one and say hey we fixed it.

good luck

Make sure your laptop screen is broke!

Is my laptop screen broke?

Before you go and book a repair with us you might want to confirm that your laptop screen is actually broke and not something else that is wrong with your laptop.

Most laptop screen failures are because of cracked or damaged panels and the fault is fairly obvious.  A big crack in the panel glass or the screen is bleeding.

Sometimes the fault can be due to another component failing in a laptop.  The best way to check if it’s the screen that is faulty or another component in the laptop is to use a standard computer monitor.  You’ll find that most laptops/netbooks have a VGA connection port where you can plug in your standard computer monitor to.  This will output the display of your laptop to the computer monitor.

Make sure that your laptop is outputting to the monitor this is usually done by pressing the FN button and either f5 or f6 this depends on the type of laptop you’ve got of course.

If you do get a display using the computer monitor this pretty much tells you that yes you do have a faulty laptop screen and it will need repaired.  However if you do not get anything from the display you may have another issue in your laptop.  to identify why your laptop screen is not working it will probably have to be booked in for repair anyway.

This procedure is quiet useful if you have critical data that you need to get off your laptop as it allows temporary access to your laptop via a standard computer monitor until which time our national courier can come and pick-up your laptop for repair.

Of course not everyone has a spare computer monitor lying around however you might be able to test at work or if you’ve got a flat screen TV you’ll find that these usually have a VGA connection to test.  You’ll just need the VGA lead which can be picked up pretty cheap on eBay of purchased in shops like Maplin.

We’ve got pretty standard pricing on all our laptop screen repairs so to take the hassle out your life just use our online repair booking form.  A courier will come collect the laptop next day all you need to do is make sure it’s securely packaged in a box as it will be in transit.  Laptops are fixed within 1 hour of receiving and shipped back as soon as payment as been taken after we phone you.
