Nissan plans to start selling a new lower cost quick charger for electric-vehicles starting in November.
The new charger will need about 30 minutes to recharge the battery of the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle to 80 percent capacity. that is similar to the existing chargers.
But the Japanese carmaker said the new device, which initially will only be sold in Japan, is half the size of the old one. it will also retail at “significantly less” than 1 million yen, compared with 1.47 million yen for the current-generation charger.
Nissan said it hopes to sell 5,000 of the new units by March 2016. it also plans to sell the systems in Europe and the US but didn’t set a timetable for this.
Reducing the time it takes to recharge an EV battery is important in the industry’s efforts to attract new customers. with the range of the average EV little more than 100km, automakers want to assure potential buyers that recharging can be achieved relatively quickly.
Next to Nissan, Volvo and other car companies are also working on systems that give future EV owners a quick-recharge option.
According to Nissan, it takes 7 hours to fully recharge an empty Nissan Leaf battery at 220 volts. Using 110 volt current, it can take as long as 20 hours.

Websites, forum posts, books, firsthand advice…
I'm NOT looking to order cheap DVDs or decorative items to sell on eBay (no wholesale catalog websites).
So, nothing like this:
buychinawholesale.co.uk/
wholesalereplica.co.uk/
I'm interested in bulk ordering more useful things like Asian foods, raw or custom-carved jade, cell phone replacement batteries, and so on.
How do I order such things from Chinese exporters?
Where can I find them?
How do I contact them?
What do they expect of me when I contact them?
How do I protect myself against fraud?
What is typically the minimum dollar amount for a bulk order?
I'm looking for a complete guide to buying wholesale from China.

By Jonathan WelshAC PropulsionThis electric race car will go for a new record in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
In recent years the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a long-running race near Colorado Springs, has become a high-profile marketing opportunity for car and motorcycle manufacturers who tout their results in advertising campaigns.
It is also a proving ground for emerging technology including electric power. Today electric drive-train designer and manufacturer AC Propulsion said one of its drive systems will power the current electric-vehicle record holder in this year’s hill climb to be held this Sunday.
Last year an EV racer, also powered by AC Propulsion and sponsored by Yokohama won the competition’s Exhibition Class and set a new EV record of 13:17:575.
For this year’s race, the company improved the cooling system of its 200-kW drive system. As a result the company expects it to help get the racer to the top of the climb even faster this year – perhaps in the 12-minute range. the vehicle is a rear-wheel drive, open-wheel race car driven by Japan’s Ikuo Hanawa. it will use Yokohama BluEarth tires, which are designed to conserve fuel. Power will come from Sanyo Electric co. lithium-ion batteries.
Similar to the AC Propulsion AC-150 motor found in the BMW MINI E, the Pikes Peak AC-180 motor produces 268 horsepower (200kW) at 6000-7000 rpm and 258 lb.-ft of torque from zero to 5000 rpm.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is in its 89th year and has long been known as the race to the Clouds. the 12.-4 mile course begins at an altitude of 2,862 meters and rises to 4,301 meters at the finish line. the race is known for difficult conditions including thin air, rapidly changing temperatures and a variety of paved and unpaved roads.
Top competitors in the Unlimited Class have been trying for years to complete the course in less than 10 minutes. the current record is 10 minutes one second.
