Vista killed my XP keyboard and mouse?

I am asking this again here because I feel that this is a software (driver) problem and not a hardware one.

I recently took my HDD from an XP box and installed it into a Vista box to copy some large files to the new machine. I have returned the drive to the XP box and it boots fine but at the login screen the keyboard and mouse both die. Safe mode is no different either. I know they do work in BIOS cause I have to log in there too before the machine will boot plus I am able to select boot options. I believe that Vista has somehow damaged the drivers by being in that box. I can tell you that Vista did something to circumvent XP security protocols on the drive in order to access it.

(maybe it's actually locking up due to something with account security settings being damaged?)

The keyboard and mouse are both PS2 and not USB
Both are very clean and well maintained

A mouse does not work in BIOS mode.

And if the PS/2 ports became disconnected while powered up. you will need to reboot. PS/2 is not hot swappable,

Try going into the bio's at start up and see if it is set for ps/2 settings to detect when you start up. If not then you will need the drivers disk that came with the keyboard and mouse, and reinstall them.

Let me know which you think would be best or even if it would be better to build one my self (except i dont really have a clue how to) thanks in advance

Wow that is a long post. I just built my own PC and I new little to nothing about them. I went on Youtube and watched videos and read articles and after about a week of doing that I felt comfortable enough to try it. I ordered all the parts online and put it together all by myself without any trouble. it was an amazing experience and i highly recommend it to you if you have the time and will. if not buy the second computer you listed, it is far superior for gaming.

the last one on your list..it would be cheaper if you built it yourself…i didnt know a thing about building computers but i went to youtube and search " How to build a gaming PC" there is one by geekempire which is really simple yet informative and within a day i got enough confident to build my own gaming rig :D just built one 4 months ago :D
