Ancient Egyptian rulers???

correct me if i'm wrong but aren't most ancient egyptian pharoah's middle eastern., as far as lineage…there was big protest over here about king tut being portrayed as something other than black(african) but weren't they all middle eastern?? I know there were a few Pharoah's toward the middle of egyptian rule that were nubian but generally speaking there weren't many black rulers and king tut was not one of them…am i correct in saying this????

*Scientifically speaking the first person on earth Adam and Eve were Black… Black is the original race… makes sense too because Black is the color of all colors. and White is the Absence of all color so to get all the colors in between you would have to start from black and slowly deplete the pigment until you get white

yes you're right, DNA tests on ancient and modern egyptians shows they are of the same stock. the modern egyptians are the descendants of these ancient Egyptians. the DNA tests confirmed a close relationship between the modern Egyptians living in the Nile Valley and the ancient workers who had been buried there.

You are correct. Tut was a real Egyptian. the Nubians came later, and later yet, came the Greeks. a lot of folks don't realize that Cleopatra and her family were Greek. Her grandfather Ptolomy fought with Alexander the Great, and was awarded Egypt for his services. I believe they lasted three or four generations.

Bill Giauque’s Star-Banner horse racing column recounts Ruler On Ice’s win at the Belmont Stakes

By Bill Giauque Columnist Published: Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 5:33 p.m. Last Modified: Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 5:33 p.m.

Prior to Saturday’s Belmont Stakes win by Ruler On Ice, I read, “strange things happen in the Belmont Stakes (gr. 1).” the writer gave the examples of Da’ Tara and Sarava, who won the third jewel of the Triple Crown at “call your travel agent” prices.

I should have listened to that guy. Who was it? oh, it was me! How can I be so smart and not cash a ticket.

Then, at Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co., where I watched the Belmont, some guy popped up and said, “look at the odds. Ruler On Ice is only 27-to-1. he ought to be 250-to-1.”

Who said that? oh, it was me! How can I be so stupid?

During the run up to the Belmont on NBC, the crew came up with some valuable factoids. Longtime commentator Mike Battaglia came up a goose egg for favorites in the 10 major prep races and the Kentucky Derby (gr. 1) and Preakness Stakes (gr. 2). Favorites 0-for-12. in the last two years in the same races, including last year’s Belmont Stakes, favorites are 1-for-25.

Why didn’t I listen to that? I’m so stupid. I was too busy telling myself that if the long shots were being bet like collateralized debt obligations in the financial crash of 2008, I should look at the favorites, which would be overlays.

Add to this appalling misuse of information, the sloppy condition of the racetrack. the NBC crew also pointed out that only two horses in the field had run on a sloppy track — Ruler On Ice and Isn’t he Perfect.

Of course, a quick look at the race record of Isn’t he Perfect, and I knew he wasn’t. that leaves Ruler On Ice. Ruler On Ice won a maiden race in the slop at Delaware Park on Dec. 10.

That one race did motivate to rip my hip pocket open getting to my wallet to place a bet. However, when a person looked at the sealed, sloppy Belmont racing surface, the light reflected off the slop made the racetrack look more like a skating rink than a racetrack.

Skating rink. Hockey arena. Ice. this track looks like a sheet of ice. What’s the name of that horse? oh, yeah! Ruler On Ice. Wait a minute! what an omen. he is the only horse in the field that won in the slop. at the right angle, the track looks like ice. His name is Ruler On Ice. a winner on ice.

Just a cotton pickin’ minute here. Let’s not get carried away this horse hasn’t won a stakes race. he was second in the Federico Tesio Stakes and third in the Sunland Derby (gr. 3). the Sunland Derby, isn’t that the race that mine that Bird won before he won the Kentucky Derby?

Well, not exactly. he finished fourth in the Sunland Derby. And Ruler On Ice’s best Beyer speed figure is just an 86. No way! I can’t go there.

This is a sloppy racetrack. big Sandy. all wet and sloppy, but it is not ice. It’s slop. Who would benefit in the slop? well, front runners do well in slop, and front runners have been doing well in all the races before the Derby. Shackleford is my horse. He’s going to the lead. If he can make the mile and a half, he’s the winner.

Not only that, but he is an overlay at 6-to-1. Master of Hounds, the European invader that has been building his frequent flyer miles instead of winning races, is 6-to-1, He’s not in an airplane today.

Shortly after the gate opened, Animal Kingdom clipped heels, throwing jockey John Velazquez up on his neck. Velazquez lost his left stirrup in the serious bobble. Although the jockey regained the iron quickly, the race was lost for the Derby winner.

Shackleford held to the head of the stretch before relinquishing the lead and my money to Ruler On Ice, who battled all the way to the finish line. Stay Thirsty finished at 16-to-1 and Brilliant Speed, owned by Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Plantation, finished third at 10-to-1.

Good grief! Can’t a favorite even get in the money?

When asked that question before the race, winning jockey Jose Valdivia replied, “we will have to blame it on the handicappers, I guess.”

Are you talkin’ to me? I guess he is.

Making nonsense of Fata – The Express Tribune

The writer is a postdoctoral fellow at the Society of Fellows, Harvard University.

At least since 9/11, Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) have attracted much domestic and international attention as the hotbed of global jihad. But in the rush to make sense of this complex area and its people, scholars, reporters and policy wonks alike, have fallen for stereotypes, cliches and myths.

The most pervasive of them all, concern the peculiarity of Pashtun tribal and cultural norms. in its crassest form, the ‘cultural’ argument rooted deep in British colonial ideology strips tribal Pashtuns of their humanity and mystifies them as ‘noble savages’. How do you tame these savages for their own good? Enter, the tailor-made Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) of 1901, a system of indirect colonial rule enforced by the Political Agent (PA), the operative system of governance to this day. With expansive judicial, administrative and coercive powers at his disposal, the PA maintains social control over the unruly tribes by bribing or coercing the state’s local proxies, the maliks. Under the FCR, the PA has the powers of arbitrary arrest and detention without the right of bail, discretionary control over criminal and civil justice through a distorted jirga system, and of course, the truly heinous power to punish entire tribes under ‘collective and territorial responsibility’.

Supplementing the seductive simplicity of the noble savage is the myth of the jihadi Pashtun, found in both, policy and media commentary. in this equally reductionist view, jihad is entrenched in Pashtun history going back to tribal revolts against Sikh, Mughal and British colonial rulers of India. Fast forward to the present, this jihadi DNA can explain why Taliban militancy has flourished in Fata. But tribal rebellions, many of which were strategically framed as struggles for religious revival, were equally about political autonomy. and let’s not forget that the most significant Pashtun political movement of the 20th century was not some militarist campaign for an Islamist utopia, but a pacifist, secular anti-colonial struggle waged by the Khudai Khidmatgars (Red Shirts) led by Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan. besides, if jihad is really a Pashtun vocation, why are jihadi tanzeems like the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, born and bred in the Punjab?

If the Pashtuns are jihadis, it follows that they must also support Islamists politically. The evidence cited for this claim: The success of the Muttahida Majlise Amal (MMA) Islamist alliance in the 2002 elections in both Fata and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) No doubt Islamist parties like the JUI-F have support in the area, partly because the ban on competitive party politics privileges the mullahs who can use madrassas for political mobilisation. besides, the MMA’s clean sweep was not necessarily a ringing popular endorsement of their politics. it was also the result of the military’s manipulation of that election aimed at sidelining the more moderate political parties. If Pashtuns really were such diehard Islamists, why did the ANP and PPP rout the mullahs in the 2008 elections both in K-P and Fata?

In fact, the growth of violent extremism in Fata is neither the product of public preference nor of some immutable Pashtun culture. Instead, it is the result of poor, corrupt and oppressive governance; rampant poverty and criminality; the Pakistani state’s use of the area as a launching pad for its jihadi proxies; and the military’s ‘peace deals’ with militants, especially under General Pervez Musharraf, which undermined already tenuous state authority by ceding them control over large swathes of territory.

If the Pakistani state is really serious about fighting militancy in Fata, no amount of military force is likely to be sufficient. Fata is in desperate need of radical governance and political reforms, as well as economic development to dent the appeal of extremism. Cognisant of this imperative, President Asif Ali Zardari announced a package of reforms in 2009, including amendments to the FCR, which granted the right of bail and reduced the arbitrary powers of the PA. But no amount of tinkering with this colonial monstrosity can ameliorate the genuine grievances of the local population. Hence, it must be abolished and the region either integrated into K-P or converted into a separate province, depending on the wishes of its people. The Political Parties Act, 2002 must also be extended to the area to allow normal, competitive party politics. Conditions on the ground in each agency will surely decide the timing and sequence of reforms. But there is simply no political or moral justification for keeping Fata trapped in its colonial past.
