Windmill water pumps?

Many farms use windmills to pump water into troughs for cows.

How do the pumps work? Is it a screw or piston mechanism?

What is a water pump in a car? How much is it to replace?

And if it needs to be replaced, does that spell trouble for a car? I see a car I might like to buy, but the ad says that the water pump needs to be replaced. someone please enlighten me. thanks.

depends on the car some are cheap and simple some are high and a big thing –as cheap as 100.00 at a shop or as much as 1000.00 depends on car

Seller knows having a bad pump hurts the car's value.

How big a piece of crap is this car that they won't change the pump before trying to sell?

Well you could ENLIGHTEN us of what car/truck that you are talking about.

The water pump circulates the water form the radiator to the engine to help keep it from overheating. prices for water pumps range anywhere from @ $30 – $100+ and that is just the cost of the pump itself and not including the labor to install it.

if you don't know what a water pump is you should just walk away from this car due to the fact that you will not know what else to look for and it may be a very very costly mistake for you to buy this car, now to answer you question on what is a water pump. a water pump circulates the water and coolant though the motor in to the radiator to keep your car from over heating. thing (bad things)can happen when a water pump fails like cracked and warped heads blown gaskets etc

Don't buy it. I'm going through the same thing that I will fix myself and if it weren't mine I wouldn't do it for cheap either. So many things can be in the way. also maybe it could be a headgasket which is even worse.

Dony buy it, its probably god a blown headgasket. Depending on what year and model it is, waterpumps can be from 300 to over 800 dollars, theyre usually not easy to get to, unless youre a dodge or gm truck owner.

I'd suggest don't buy it. The water pump cools the engine. my guess is that the person selling the car overheated the engine and knows what problems that will cause and wants to unload it on someone.

Buyer BEWARE when buying used cars.

the water pump is what keeps the engine cool in the car if it has a bad one on it there is a small chance that it might have been drove a little hot,and this can hurt the engine in one,it can actually ruin a good engine,id be care full if i was buying this one ,it might be one to stay away from the water pump circulates the coolant all through the engine,if ts gone out it will cost a little money to replace it,just be care full you can get burned on this car real bad ,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

when they said it need water pump that spell big trouble!!!! when water pump went out it caused the car over heated when the car over heated it could be million thing like blow head gasket special in the older car, if you get it cheap enough or vary love the car you can check the oil to see if water mix with it or try to start it up see if it smoking if none of those exit you probably okey to buy but save a lot money for repair later on.

I have been in the automotive cooling business for over 25 years and Michael is exactly right. Depends on the make model and year . usually normal wear and tear on a car will cause the pump to fail it is a fast moving part but at the same rate have some one point out the cooling systems recovery bottle and look inside of it and take a whiff. if it looks bad and smells bad that could be your sign to move on to the next car. Look for rust colored stuff in the coolant bottle BUT if it is a GM product after 95 i believe they have orange coolant so don't let that through you off either.

IT spells trouble for the car if you don't replace the waterpump. Waterpump pumps water through your engin block to keep it cool. no Water, the engine block freezes, nothing moves, engine block may crack, time for a new motor or another car.

a water pump circulates the coolant thru the radiator to keep the engine cool. Some are outside of the engine and fairly easy to replace. others are stuck in at rediculous places and require special tools and dynamite to remove. It better be an awful nice car but at least the seller was honest about it so maybe he would be honest about th rest of the car. Its not a BIG expense but maybe you sould get an estimate so you know and can add that to what you will have to pay for the car. and get it fixed right away so you don't have to replace the engine too.

I am planning on installing a sewage pump in a basement bathroom does anyone know how noisy they are?

I will be installing a sewage ejector pump in a basement bathroom that will hold a small shower, toilet and small sink and was wondering if anyone knows how noisy they are. I believe they go underground but not really sure. anyone has any experience with this? Does anyone know how much they cost and where I can find one. I am in Los Angeles, CA. Any help and advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The largest, and best, plumbing distributor in the country, Ferguson Enterprises, has multiple locations in the LA area. go see them as they will be able to give you all of the help you need, as the most important aspect of this type of system is proper sizing and pump selection, as you don't want to undersize and create more problems for yourself and you aslo want to make sure you select the correct pump, as there are several different types of sewage pumps on the market (simplex, duplex, grinder etc) to consider. You also may want to check out the Qwik Jon systems which are for basement baths as well. The folks at Ferguson would certianly be able to help you out! Good luck!

They are pretty noisy. if it is always necessary to turn on the light when using the bathroom. You could use a two-way (SPDT) switch to feed power to the light and the pump. Turning on the light would force off the pump.

You may have to run new wire to the switch, as it might be on a 15 amp circuit.

Water pump pressure relief vavle?

1996 Eagle Vision tsi,has a small coolant leak, was told it iso.k. due to a water pump pressure release valve?has anyone heard of this on an auto?I thought they were only in hot water tanks at home.

I have never heard of a water pressure relief valve on a motor.

not on a water pump, your radiator car, which is part of the cooling system has a pressure release cap. that could be what you are referring to

I've never hear of any such thing on a car. what they might be saying it's leaking from teh weep hole on the water pump

Your friend is full of it. There is no water pumper pressure release valve.

When the preasure is high the radiator cap spring compresses and allows water back into the overflow.

No there is not a pressure release valve on a vehicle water pump. There is however a weap hole, which is where it leaks from when your water pump goes "bad". The pressure release on the cooling system is through the radiator cap.

This is a new one to me! All water pumps have a weep hole in front of the water pump bearing to alert mechanics and owners the water pump needs replacing. The pressure inside a cooling system is controlled by the pressure cap on the radiator or coolant recovery tank. many cars have the pressure cap now directly on the reserve coolant recovery tank. Ford is an example. as pressure builds when the coolant gets hot the relief spring inside the radiator cap allows coolant to pass to the coolant recovery tank @ atmospheric pressure if the pressure cap is located directly on the radiator.
As coolant cools a small plunger in the center of the radiator cap opens and coolant returns to the motor and radiator. The whole idea is to completely eliminate air bubbles inside the cooling system.

I'd have to actually see this in a Chrysler shop manual as you could be loosing coolant and have no idea where or why. what you're explaining to us doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Someone is whistling "sweet nothings" in your ear.
