I have found that my video camera battery (which is not even a year old) doesn't last more than 5 minutes anymore! When I would charge it, I would just leave it charging all the time. You know like leave it plugged in? could this have the opposite affect? should I just charge it for an hour or two and then unplug it?
try running your battery down to nothing and then recharge it.
Batteries only like to be charged when they need it.
I'm going to pass on an old trick that will revive some but not all batteries in the state yours is in.
1. Discharge the battery totally by playing or recording a tape on the camcorder.
2. Charge the battery completely.
3. Place the battery in your refridgerator for 30 to 40 minutes. Do not put it in the freezer.
4. Charge the battery a second time.
5. Place the battery onto the camcorder.
6. Put a blank tape in the camcorder.
7. Reset the camcorder's counter to zero.
8. Turn on the camcorder and press the record button.
9. Let the camcorder run, recording, until it stops by itself due to a run down battery.
Then, repeat steps 2 through 9.
You may have to do this 2 or 3 times.
Before you reset the counter each time, make a record of what the counter was showing before you reset it.
You want to do this so you can see if the running time has increased by giving the battery this treatment.
If the running time has not appreciably increased after a third treatment, then that is a dead battery that needs to be replaced.
In the future, the camcorder will tell you when it wants its battery recharged. It probably knows best.

no, only rechargable batteries can be recharged
NO! Don't do this. I accidentally did it (I got regular batteries confused with the rechargeable ones) and after I charged the regular ones, I used them in my digital camera and they broke it. Then I didn't figure it out and used them in my GameBoy, and it broke that! AHHH! DON'T DO IT!
no- it's dangerous, they can explode!
no. it might actually blow up.
Rechargeabel batteries- for all rechargeable batteries only.
If NON rechargeable- DON'T CHARGE
Yes put them in the oven ON VERY LOW TEMP. for 15 min.
no dont do that or you can do what the guy above me says if you ask me its crazy but its your choice
Absolutely not!
They will leak electrolyte and destroy your equipment.

I have a kodak easyshare Z712 IS digital camera and i use Sony Ni-MH battery (AA.typ.2100 mAh)for the camera.I can hardly use the batteries for an hour.why is it so?
The batteries in P&S cameras are designed for taking a certain number of shots, not for a certain length of time to be left turned on.
Turn off you camera after each shooting session and you should get at least 200 shots from your charge. Also charge your batteries just before you intend to use your camera.
The next time you buy a camera, buy one that uses a Li-ion battery …. the hold their charges much longer and can last for years.
