i have socket 939, lol, and i currently have this processor
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual-Core Processor
I just want to know , if this one is better
AMD Opteron 175 Denmark 2.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 110W Dual-Core Processor
If it is, should i get it?
I have 2 gigs of ram and want to upgrade to 4. and want to upgrade my processor aswell. I have to render many things in my 3d software.
Is that processor better?
I would get a quad core Intel if you render
but your computer is good enough
upgrading is such a fad unless you really need to
hi,
yes there is an opteron which uses a socket 939. i would hugely recommend this upgrade since you are using your pc for rendering. a server cpu can muster more power than a normal dual core cpu. it also has twice the cache your current processor has. this will also increase performance.
4gigs of ram shall eliminate any possibility that swap space shall be used from the harddrive which shall slow the rendering process down.
cheers
Ok so Wilson does not know what he's talking about….
The Intel Quad core is socket 775… not 939, also you cannot just switch from AMD to Intel.
I would say stick with your current chip, upgrade to 4 Gbs, altho depending on your 32 or 64 bit OS, only about 3.25 to 3.5 will be recognized… its just how it is.
Goodluck
The opteron is better.
Bigger Cache and slightly higher frequency
Make sure your power supply has the power to run it though, as it requires more than the Athlon.
