I moved my printer and computer. I forgot which power cable belongs to which. both are 120 volt and hertz is same, except one is 10 amp and the other is 12 amp. If my printer says 9.9 amp, which do I use? I have a feeling its the 12 amp because it has no dust on it, the printer is new. Would happens if I decide to use the 12 amp cable on my printer?
10 amps is the max. You are OK.
amp ratings are directly related to wire size. the 12 amp is just a slightly larger wire. your printer will only draw the amperage it needs. you could use a 20 amp wire and it would still only draw the rated amps. for what its worth my computer power cable is 10 amp. you will be fine either way.
In this case, I can not conceive of it making any difference. no normal computer or printer use anywhere near 10 amps or 12 amps, so those ratings are apparently max for the cable and both are so far in excess of what each draws that it will make no difference at all.
