I bought a the Belkin USB KVM switch from ebay, and have to send the switch back in because of a faulty wire. But in the mean time, I still want to use it to switch between my laptop and PC. is this possible?

Does this KVM Switch come with the KVM cables?
And does KVM switches do the one mouse, one keyboard, one moniter, multiple computers thing?

I had 2 KVM switches stop doing their job last night. I don't have the time or space to troubleshoot them. I've had problems with certain computers that I'm servicing in my office not see any monitor through any KVM switch that I've had. Generally, I'm just looking to see if these devices are conveniences rather than reliable tools.
Thank you for your insights.
I run the IT department for a pathology lab. I've installed a fair number of inexpensive dual system KVM boxes (from Office Depot) without any problems. The machines using them run thin client on one side and networked x86 machines on the other. Teaching doctors how to properly use them is another story, though.
